"No, reading something is fine. I jus--"

"Here you are," Languish says as she returns.

She sets the drinks down and then places straws on the table.

"Hey, Languish," Raven says, "when's the next poetry night?"

"This weekend, actually," Languish says. "You going to read something?"

"Maybe, but Rorek was thinking about it, too."

"Cool," Languish says. "Have you done any public readings before?"

"Not really," you say. "I've barely read my own poetry to anyone."

"Well, if you've got something, come by around 6 PM on Saturday," Languish says. "We'll keep a spot open for you two."

"Thanks," Raven says.

"I'll be back when your food is ready," Languish says as she continues through her area.

You and Raven sit quietly a moment.

"What... tone is usually used at these poetry nights?" you ask.

"Tone?" she asks.

"You know what I mean," you say, "is it the typical dreary goth poetry or has there been upbeat material?"

"I'm... pretty sure this place is more of the 'typical dreary' goth," Raven says with a smirk.

"Well that might be a problem," you say as you nervously scratch your cheek. "I'm not sure how dreary I can be."

"What?"

"Well, I don't know if I can fake being sad," you say. "I don't exactly have reasons to be sad, when I have you."

Raven blushes and smiles, and fidgets in place with flattered bashfulness.

"Well, I mean," she says as she calms down. "It's not that hard to fake it."

"You're telling me you can fake being sad?"

"Yeah," she says.

Raven's eyes droop and her lower lip pouts as she breathes in. She then breathes out with a sighing moan as she lowers to rest against the table. She even sniffles as she forlornly mixes her milkshake with her straw. She takes in sobbing breaths as she rests her head on the table.

"Raven, stop," you say as people look over. "Don't make this into a reference to When Harry Met Sally."

"To what?" she says as she instantly returns to normal.

"When Harry Met Sally."

She still looks perplexed.

"1989 romantic comedy. Billy Crystal. Meg Ryan."

Still nothing.

"How do you not know about that but you were literally going to make it about faking sadness the same way they... Um..."

"They what?" Raven asks.

"Nevermind," you say. "Though we can try watching it later so you understand."

"Okay," she chuckles. "But I suppose it's not so much about faking it as bringing what you have inside to the surface. Whatever past sadness you've had, you just remember and feel it, and you put that on paper. We've got a couple days so we can work on that when we're not working on my dancing or elemental spells."

"I suppose," you say. "Now to finally try some of this 'Little Sinner'."

You take the straw Languish placed, and the spoon that came with the silverware, and drink in the bubbly root beer and scoop the rum raisin and chocolate cream.

"Mmm!" you say. "This is good."

"I like the cherry in this," Raven says about her Bloody Eye milkshake.

"Did they use juice or syrup?"

"A little of both, I think," she says. "There's a thickness from something more than just the ice cream."

Languish returns with the food and sets them down.

"Oh, the sliders are the scorpions," you say. "How charming."

Each small burger has a curled fry to be a tail, and the onions are arranged to be the eight legs and even the pincer claws.

"Thanks," Languish says. "It was my idea, even though the chefs put it together."

Languish heads off to another of her tables and you dig in by taking out the "tails" and dipping them in ketchup.

"What's in a Midnight Pancake that makes it look so dark?" you ask. "I can tell it's not burnt so that darker color comes from something."

"They mix in chocolate and nutmeg," she says as she soaks syrup up into a piece she's cut.

"Oh that sounds delicious," you say.

"It is," she smiles. "So, after this, what do you want to do? I could show you around town a bit more, or we could practice more of my elemental magic."

A) Let her show you around town
B) Return to Titan's Tower for magic training

"Yes, I like the sound of a tour around Jump City," you say.

"Cool," she says. "I'll show you some other places I like to spend my down time."

"Are they... like this place?"

"Scared to find out?" she smirks.

"No," you say. "I mean, after making it through the Museum of Death, not much else could possibly put me off."

Raven chuckles as she puts the slice of pancake in her mouth. You move to biting into a slider, and enjoy the juiciness of the medium-well meat as well as the tomatoes and onion "legs".

"Very good," you say after swallowing. "My compliments to the chef."

"Yeah they do pretty good for a small cafe like this," Raven says. "Yet I don't think I've ever seen the chef, even with the order window and a door."

"Probably just shy."

"Does your family have a personal chef?" she asks.

"Why yes, a team of them, actually. They prepare every meal for us, and are always happy to go the extra mile when it comes to holidays and festivities. For that matter, I'm sure they're planning something special for my Father's party even now."

"So you do you have servants," she says.

"Well, when you say it like that, you make it like my family considers itself a superior species or something."

"You have almost 20 families vying to be the one that marries in to yours," she counters.

"Yes but we don't consider anyone beneath us," you defend. "Our chefs, butlers and maids are our employees but we don't abuse them or make unneeded work for them like spoiled ninnies."

Raven giggles.

"Ninnies," she says, still laughing.

You two keep eating as you talk more about your house staff.

"There's headbutler Bret Wilmarth, and his wife is the headmaid, Nadine Wilmarth. Their sons are Carter, Gerik and Fredrick, while their daughters are Penelope, Bernadina, Opalina and Ginnie."

"So it's all one family?" she asks.

"Yes," you say. "The Wilmarth family has served the Null family diligently and with respectful recognition since Rorek the Fourth first hired Kermit Wilmarth; Kermit's name has nothing to do with the frog, though I do like the idea of my ancestor travelling with the little green muppet around the country."

Raven giggles more.

You two finish your meals and drinks, and Languish comes by to take plates and glasses while dropping off the check.

$31.27

You put down $37.50, the change being Languish's tip.

"Thank you for the meal," you say as you and Raven stand up. "It was very satisfying."

"Thank you for the compliment," Languish says, "I'll pass it along to Bleak."

You and Raven take your leave, you opening the door for Raven while gently guiding her through with a hand near the small of her back. You know "Tommy Cemetary" is seeing this, but you don't look him in the eye to make this seem obnoxiously targeted at him.

"So where to?" you ask Raven as you return to Shadowfax.

"Just follow my directions," she says as she straps on her helmet.

You put your helmet on and drive onto the road. You follow her guidance and, after riding the famous Lombard Road, you end up near Pier 39, at a place called "Musée Mécanique".

"Mechanical Museum," you translate from French. "What's in here?"

Raven leads you inside, and you see dozens-- no, hundreds of various antiquities, like a historical archive of carnival and arcade games from as far back as a century ago!

"Pretty neat, right?" she asks with a smile.

"Oh this is more than just 'pretty neat'," you say. "This is spectacular."

"Yeah, the collection is really something," Raven says as you two walk through. "Plus, some of the doll faces and stuff, kinda creepy but that makes it all the better."

"I'd expect nothing less," you chuckle. "So, all of these work?"

"Yeah," she says, "coin operated. Any American coin from penny to quarter works on something in here."

"In that case..." you say as you take a look around. "How about a go with..."

B) The carnival boxers

"Bocca Della Verita...!" you say with a dramatic tone. "Aka, the Mouth of Truth."

You step up to a hard plastic replica of the iconic stone sculpture.

http://www.museemecaniquesf.com/images/machines/cathy/bocca.jpg

"So, put the coins in the side..." you say as you see the slots for dimes. "And you put your hand in the mouth. If you answer a question falsely, it will bite your hand off! Or, the actual, legendary one is said to."

"Alright," Raven says as she brings up her hand. "Put in a dime and ask me a question."

"Okay," you say as you put in a coin. "Put in your hand."

Raven slides her hand into the open "mouth".

"Ask a question," she says.

"Hmm..." you say as you think. "When we were in your mind--"

"Please no," Raven says.

"What? That's the point of the Mouth of Truth. Get to the personal things and get you to answer truthfully."

"You suck," she mumbles.

"As I was saying," you continue. "We were in your mind, and we met your other selves. And I've been wondering ever since... Is Wizard of Oz really your favorite movie outside of horror?"

"Huh?" she says in surprise.

"What? Were you expecting a question about your 'passionate' side?"

"N-No!" she says.

*click* "Ow!" she says as she pulls out her hand.

"Oho! The Mouth of Truth bites at your lies. Does it really hurt?"

"It was a quick bite," she smirks it off as she shakes her hand. "I'll live."

"Okay, my turn," you say.

"Wait, off the record," she says, stopping you from putting your hand in. "Was your question really going to be about the Wizard of Oz?"

"Yes and no," you say. "I am a bit surprised, but I will admit there is some frightening and surreal elements to it that you would like. I just wanted to ask it to get you off balance. Now may I take my turn?"

"Yes," she says.

You put in a new dime and get your hand in the mouth.

"Ask away," you say.

"Well, since you wanted to talk about my mindscape," she says with arms crossed. "Imagine I wasn't there, it was just you and my emotional personifications. Would you have accepted Passion's offer to enter the hot spring?"

"Yes," you answer immediately.

Raven's eyes widen and jaw drops as she gasps.

"Pervert," she says in a hushed voice as she smacks your shoulder; she can't help but blush and even smile bashfully.

"Well 'Passion' wouldn't be offering it if you didn't want to offer," you smirk at her. "That's how those work, right? They're all your inner thoughts and feelings."

"Oh, pff," Raven smirks as she rolls her eyes.

You look around and see a collection of "Love testers" just across the way.

"Then let's put this to the test," you say as you withdraw your hand.

You lead the way over to the row of machines.

"Sex Appeal Meter, Love-o-meter, hand-scanning Sexiness Test, Kissometer," you say. "This is quite the selection."

"Don't do the Sexiness Test," Raven says. "I'm not participating in something that uses a play on '69' as its top score."

You chuckle as you take out a quarter.

"Then let's step up to the alternative Sex Appeal Meter," you say. "I'll go first this time."

You put the quarter in the machine and then squeeze the plier handles. A light starts spinning just behind the plastic screen. It gains speed, and you let go. It slows down and lands on...

Teasing

"Well, I don't disagree with that," you shrug. "Would you like a try?"

"Fine," she says.

You put in another quarter, and Raven gives the handles a squeeze. The light spins, she lets go, and the light slows down to land on...

Passionate

"See?" you say. "It's a sign. It knows what's deep down inside."

"Oh whatever," she says. "It's clearly random."

You two chuckle as you move on.

You exit the Musée Mécanique and ride Shadowfax along the Northern coast to eventually arrive at a place called Point Lobos.

"So what's here?" you ask. "Besides this nice look out at the ocean."

"Down there," Raven says as she points to a decrepit and abandoned building. "What's left of the Sutro Baths."

"Baths? As in a bathhouse?"

"Yeah, but it was also a public swimming pool and water park," she says. "Of course, this was all back near the end of the 1800's. It's just empty walls now. It's really great at sunset, sometimes it feels like a sort of... spirit of the past lingers here. The fun and relaxation that this place used to be filled with, y'know? Like something here wants those days to return with a sad sense of nostalgia."

Raven looks at the ruins of the old bathhouse with a sad smile of her own. You smile, because you're happy to see this side of her.

You move on from here all the way around the South side of town, and come back around to the East side. You weave into a spot inside and find the Prelinger Library. You park, and Raven leads you inside.

"I should've guessed that one of your favorite spots was a library," you say.

You two enter, and walk down to see the different aisles. In one, you see a rather skinny young woman with bright pink hair done up like Maleficient from Sleeping Beauty, dressed in black-and-purple striped socks and a highly gothic outfit sitting cross-legged reading an issue of American Cemetery. Raven stops to look at her.

"Jinx?" she says.

The young woman looks up and sees Raven.

"Oh, hey, Raven," she says.

"What're you doing here?" Raven asks. "I thought you and Kid Flash were off somewhere keeping up with the other Titans around the country."

"We were," Jinx sighs. "Until he got a call from The Flash, and we zipped over to Central City. We met this guy calling himself 'Impulse', who claimed to be from the future and related to The Flash, and there was this other guy called Savtar, or Savitor or whatever I don't even know. Things got really crazy, they're all really fast because they're Speedsters, and something about Speed Force. I wanted to help, but Kid Flash said he can't have me around because of stuff Impulse said about the future, and what Sav-whatever might do to me because of how... How we like each other... So, like an IDIOT, he zips me off to somewhere 'safe' and then ditches me!"

"That was a lot in a short amount of time," you say.

"Sorry, it's a habit from spending time with Speedters," she says. "Wait, who're you?"

"I'm Rorek Null the Seventh," you say.

"My boyfriend," Raven says with a smile and shrug.

"Huh," Jinx says as she looks you up and down. "Nice catch. More your style than any of the other single guys among the Titans, anyway. Can you believe some of the others thought you'd end up with Beast Boy?"

"What? Who said that stuff?"

"A few of the other girls," Jinx shrugs as she flips the page in her magazine. "Mostly Wonder Girl and Kole."

"Wonder Girl..." Raven grumbles. "This is what we get for letting the Justice League talk us into things..."

Raven skims through the books and periodicals on the shelves.

"So how did you come to join the Titans, Ms. Jinx?" you ask.

"Oh, I actually started as an enemy," she says. "The H.I.V.E, as it was called, had me and some others as 'top students' in their academy for supervillain teens, and we actually got the drop on the Titans our very first time. But then things just went downhill from there, and it was Kid Flash that convinced me to reconsider which side I was on."

"When'd you get into town?" Raven asks.

"Just this morning," Jinx says. "But I've been here most of the time. I'm stuck between trying to make my way back to Central City or bumming a night's stay off of you guys."

"Well I don't see why you can't just stop by to visit," you say.

Both Jinx and Raven look at you.

"We... don't exactly get along," Raven says.

"Mostly your fault," Jinx says as she goes back to her magazine.

Raven grumbles as she glares at Jinx, Jinx just looks up and sticks her tongue out at her.

"Oh, come now," you say. "Surely you two have enough in common to be at least somewhat friendly."

"She likes unicorns," Raven says to you.

"And she likes that Sutro bathhouse thing," Jinx says. "What's the point of liking an old ruined building?"

"It's part of history!" Raven retorts.

"Shhhhhh...!" the elderly librarian says from the other end of the aisle.

Raven returns to glaring at Jinx, and Jinx returns to sticking her tongue out at Raven.

"Oh, that's hardly something to dislike her over," you say to Raven. "We can be polite enough to invite her over."

"But, our magic lessons..." Raven mutters.

"Magic lessons?" Jinx says, perking up. "Real magic?"

"Of course," you say.

"What kind?" she asks.

"Elemental," you say.

"Ohhh, could I join in?" she asks as she stands up, magazine flopping to the floor.

"Rorek...!" Raven grumbles.

A) Invite Jinx, and let her try her hand at elemental magic
B) Invite Jinx, to watch Raven train
C) Invite Jinx, try to pass her off on the other Titans

yikes I made this a big one. and I can't promise I'll get another update in tonight, I have an article I've been meaning to write all week.

"Raven, don't be impolite," you say. "Certainly, Jinx."

Jinx grins and claps as she heads to the door.

"What're you doing?!" Raven whispers angrily.

"Don't worry," you whisper back. "We can have the other Titans keep her busy. Surely Starfire will want to catch up with Jinx."

Raven nods understandingly.

You three walk into the parking lot and go to Shadowfax.

"Nice bike," Jinx says. "But uh, that doesn't look like it fits three."

"I suppose you don't have a sidecar in the knapsack, do you?" Raven asks.

"Well, it should be fine," you say. "Raven can fly, so Jinx can ride on the bike."

"Ooo~," Jinx says. "It might be nice to finally go a normal kind of fast."

Jinx sits behind you on the bike, you hand her the simple helmet and put on yours. Raven grumbles as you start up the engine and Jinx wraps her arms around you.

"Mmm~," Jinx says. "This is definitely better than how I travel with Kid Flash. He has to stand me up and hold my head steady so as not to risk deadly whiplash."

You pull out of the lot and Raven follows from above as you make your way North. You have to stop at red lights, and Raven politely waits with you. From the frown on Raven's face, you assume Jinx is taunting her with a smirk or stuck-out tongue.

"Wait, how is this bike going to get over there?" Jinx asks as you approach the waterfront.

You start up the Levitation Magi-Drive.

"Wow~...!" she says as she looks around at the water. "I mean, Kid Flash can run over water, but this is pretty cool."

You drive onto Titan Island and around to the back. The garage opens, and Raven flies inside with you as you park Shadowfax again. You three then head up to Ops together via the elevator.

"Oh, my laundry," you say. "Um... A moment, ladies."

You press the button for the floor before Ops. You arrive in the laundry room, you go to the two dryers you had running and take out your clothes and put them into a new magic-barrier laundry basket. You bring that along as you return to the elevator and finish the ride up to the top floor.

"Boxers or briefs?" Jinx smirks, making Raven roll her eyes.

You awkwardly clear your throat as the elevator arrives at the top. You put your laundry away in your room and join the girls in Ops.

"Jinx!" Starfire says. "Long time without seeing you!"

"Hey, Star-- huuu..!" Jinx says as Starfire gives her a strong hug.

"No Kid Flash?" Robin asks.

"Well, you would know, wouldn't you?" Jinx says while still locked in Starfire's hug.

"What do you mean?" he asks.

"Oh c'mon, Robin," Jinx says while Starfire finally releases her. "The Flash and Batman are both in the Justice League, I would think The Flash let Batman know about Impulse and Savito-whatever and then Batman would let you know because, well, he's Batman and you're Robin."

"He said The Flash was working on it," Robin says, "but--"

"But what?" Jinx says. "Why else do we have the Justice League and the Teen Titans if we're not going to try and help Kid Flash and them with something like this!?"

"There are certain villains even out of our depth," Robin says very seriously.

"Well it wouldn't hurt to try!" Jinx says, throwing her arms up angrily.

You nudge Raven as you start backing out of the room. Raven follows, and you two turn to return to the elevator.

"Hey, you guys going off to do more magic training?" Beast Boy blurts out.

You and Raven almost fall over.

"Yes, Beast Boy, we were..." Raven says with a fake smile. "Thanks for asking."

"Look," Jinx says to Robin, "you get back to me when you've gotten Batman to lend a hand to The Flash. I'm going to learn some elemental magic."

Jinx walks over to join you and Raven again, and you three are followed by Beast Boy and Cyborg into the elevator, heading down to the lobby.

"So, uh..." Cyborg says. "Why isn't Kid Flash here asking Robin to contact Batman himself?"

"Because he's just like The Flash, thinking it's their problem and theirs alone," Jinx says with a frown. "Fastest family alive yet all of them are incredibly dense."

"Family?" Raven asks.

"Yeah, apparently Kid Flash's cousin is The Flash's wife, and while Impulse is from the future, he's apparently--"

"Whoa whoa, no future talk," Beast Boy says. "Last time I heard about the future, I found out I go bald."

"It wouldn't be about you, dummy," Jinx says.

"Yeah, but you can never be too sure..." Beast Boy says.

"The reason I'm here and Kid Flash is in Central City is because he's got this idea that if you love someone but don't want them to get hurt, you keep them away," Jinx says. "So stupid. I have half a mind to dump his speedster butt and find someone new."

"Someone new, huh?" Cyborg says with an inquisitive tone.

"Yeah," Jinx says with a smirk and raised eyebrow. "That's not a bad idea."

She looks over at you and Raven.

"So you two been a thing for awhile or did this come about more recently?" she asks.

"Uhh..." you say as Cyborg looks depressed.

"They're fresh as a new dollar bill," Beast Boy says. "They make quite the... magical couple."

Jinx gives Beast Boy a jovial smirk while Raven groans and facepalms.

The elevator arrives at the lobby and all five of you exit the tower to return to the spot Raven practiced her magic just this morning.

"So what's first?" Jinx asks with an eager smile. "What kind of elemental system are we using? Greek? Alchemy? Chinese?"

"Japanese," you say.

"That was my next guess," Jinx claims. "So then... Fire, Water, Wind, Earth and Lightning?"

"Yes, exactly the ones," you say. "Have you dabbled in this kind of magic already?"

"I just researched it back at Dark Way Prep," Jinx shrugs. "Okay so which is first? Wait, which ones did Raven learn? I want to do those."

"That's not how Japanese Godai magic works," you say. "We need to find your affinities first."

"Huh?" she says with a tilted head.

"Use this magical litmus paper," you say as you take out another slip. "Put some mana into it and the reaction it has will tells us--"

Jinx immediately focuses on the paper, and it bursts into flames, which surprises her. She lets it go, and it burns up into ash before ever touching the ground.

"Fire element," you say. "Hm. Now your contentious relationship with Raven makes sense."

Raven goes back into the water and practices her control by rolling another water ball down her arm.

"Uh... Good initiative, Raven," you say awkwardly.

"Still moves like a sloth," Beast Boy says.

"Shut up," Raven snaps at him.

"So what's first?" Jinx asks you. "Fire manipulating? Fire conjuring?"

"Heat," you say.

"Heat?" she repeats.

"Yes, heat," you say. "Before creating a ball of fire, you must first prove you can generate heat. It actually works that we're by the water for this as well. You don't have to wade into the water like Raven, just be at the water's edge."

Jinx walks to the edge of the grassy plain.

"Focus mana into your hand, and picture heat," you say. "Things like the sun, or a stove, things of that nature."

Jinx stands with eyes closed and hands up turned.

"When you think you have it, put your hands in the water."

Jinx waits a little longer before kneeling onto the grass. She gently sticks her hands in the water, then opens her eyes.

"Wait, this water isn't cold," she says; then she gasps. "I'm doing it! I'm generating heat! Can I do fireballs now?"

"Not just yet," you say. "Just because your hands feel warm in water doesn't mean you're at the right level yet. You need to see how high you can build the heat."

Jinx looks determined as she puts more effort into her mana.

"Whoa, whoa!" Raven says as she gets out. "Give me some warning, please?"

"Are you alright?" you ask as you trot over to her.

"Yeah, it was about the same as a hot bath," she says. "But it came outta nowhere.

The water already looks to be steamy after only a few seconds.

"Well, Jinx's aptitude seems pretty high," you say.

Jinx pulls her hands out a moment later as the hot water lets off more steam.

"Well, even if I don't get to making fire," she says, "at least I have a way to make any bathroom my own personal sauna."

Jinx breathes in the steam and lets it waft over her face to unclog her pores.

"You might already be ready for the next step," you say. "Using heat in a more concentrated manner, you can create a spontaneous combustion of an item."

"Really?!" Jinx says with wide eyes and smile. "Okay, what do I get to light on fire first?"

You pluck a long blade of grass off the ground and present it to her.

"That?" she says.

"Well if you're so confident, go ahead and try," you say.

She takes the blade of grass and uses her heat. However, instead of igniting on fire, the grass just dries up and crinkles into dust.

"Hold on, I can get it," Jinx says as she picks up another blade of grass, only to make it crinkle again.

"That'll keep her busy for a bit," you say. "As for you, Raven, let's make some progress in..."

"Mixing."

Raven takes a new hand of water, now that the steam has subsided. She breathes into the other hand, and has an uneven mix to make ice again.

"We'll worry about sculpting ice another day," you say. "Let's try turning that frosty wind into snow. Picture it in your mind. Cold, but soft. The crunch under your feet. How it gently floats down from the sky."

"California doesn't get a lot of snow," Cyborg chuckles.

"Well, surely everyone's been somewhere that does," you say.

"Don't worry, I think I have a good idea of what snow is like," Raven smirks.

She swirls the icy wind in her hands, and as if she were spinning candy floss--cotton candy--she slowly turns ice into snow.

"Wonderful," you say. "And snow is easier to mold than ice."

"Sure is," Raven says as she packs the snow into a ball.

Raven then looks over at Jinx, who is currently on her seventh blade of grass.

"Oh oh oh!" Jinx says. "I've got one! I've got one!"

Jinx giggles and grins as her blade of grass is smoking from the tiniest little flame at the tip.

*SPOOSH* The snowball hits Jinx in the face!

"Hey!!" Jinx shouts.

"Oops," Raven says coyly. "My hand slipped."

"You threw it!!" Jinx shouts as she shakes off the snow. "And now my grass went out!"

Jinx grumbles as she plucks another one and focuses her energy on it again.

"Let her be, Raven," you say. "Let's see if you can make more and more snow. The conversion of making wind and water into ice and then ice into snow isn't 1-to-1, so if you want to make a lot of either, you need to keep feeding the process.

"Part one of this: bringing in the air around you. Do as you have, putting mana into your hand. It probably helps to swirl your hand around."

Raven rolls her wrist to make circles in the air. It takes a full minute, but Raven finally gets some air to follow her hand, and she's soon holding a small cyclone in her hand.

"Very good," you say. "With this, you can bring in more air to keep the mixture cold."

"Took you long enough to get that," Jinx taunts as she holds up her blade of grass. "I got this bad boy burning in half the time."

"Whatever," Raven says as she turns her aim back to Jinx.

"Raven, don't--!"

Raven blasts the air at Jinx's flame, and the flame explodes into a larger fire! Jinx yelps in shock and she lets the grass go. As Jinx scrambles to her feet, the burning blade ignites the rest of the grass nearby!

"Whoa!!" Beast Boy and Cyborg shout.

You throw a magical charge up as the fire starts to spread.

"Mizu!" you shout while making a hand sign.

The charge explodes into several liters of water.

"Ame!" you say as you shift into a second hand sign.

The water breaks apart into droplets and fall on the fire as rain. The fire is put out, but a large stretch of grass is burnt black.

"Look what you did!" Jinx shouts at Raven.

"What I did?!" Raven shouts back. "You dropped the fire onto the grass!"

"You made it bigger with your wind!" Jinx counters.

"Jinx is right, Raven," you say. "Your wind caused her small fire to become a larger one."

"Aha!" Jinx says.

"But," you continue, "I should've made sure to teach the relations of the elements first before moving on with your lessons. As always, water puts fire out, but wind only fans the flames. You have both, so just as easily as you could weaken someone with a Fire Nature, like Jinx, you can also strengthen them."

"What is wind strong against?" Raven asks.

"Earth. It relates to erosion. Earth is then strong against Lightning, and Lightning is strong against Water. And just as Raven is learning she can make ice from wind and water, you can combine elements to make yet even more elements. Fire and earth for lava, water and lightning to make storms, wind and earth for sand, that sort of thing."

"What about fire and lightning?" Beast Boy asks.

"Legend has it those two can make what are essentially lasers by today's standards."

"Both are plasma states of matter," Cyborg nods.

"The same goes for the legends that say water and earth can combine for wood conjuring," you say. "But in both the case of wood and lasers, no one has had affinity for both fire and lightning nor both wood and earth."

"Right, the only one you're missing is Earth Nature," Beast Boy says.

"Well, no one is perfect," you say.

Everyone has a little laugh, but then you see the blackened grass again and the cheerfulness stops. You step over and use your Restoration magic, but sadly only some of the grass comes back. The patch that is too far gone only becomes bare dirt. You sigh as you stand back up and rejoin the others.

why thank you

A

"Let's relocate," you say. "Perhaps to the other side of the island."

Beast Boy and Cyborg lead the way, Jinx following just behind them, leaving you and Raven to bring up the rear.

"This isn't just your fault for not explaining the elemental relationships," she whispers at you. "This is your fault for bringing Jinx here!"

"I was being polite," you defend.

"Well what about taking how your girlfriend feels into consideration?!"

"Ow!" you say as she smacks you in the arm.

"I told you we don't get along, but you invite her anyway," Raven grumbles.

"Well, I'm starting to think Jinx is right, that it's on you."

Raven stops walking and stops you from walking.

"What?" she says a stern look.

"I'm just saying, that for someone who works to keep her emotions in check," you say tentatively, "you seem so grumpy about it."

Her stern look doesn't lighten up.

"Don't be so stiff," you say as you walk up to her. "So grumpy, grumpy Raven, grr."

You make a mad face and jokingly huff and puff.

"You should loosen up," you say as you wave and wiggle your arms. "Loooo~sen up!"

"What're you doing?" she asks with a chuckle.

"My sisters used to like this," you say as you keeping wiggling your arms. "Jellyfish man~!"

Raven giggles and it builds into laughter.

"Stop, you're being silly," she says.

"Thank you," you say.

"But I get 'grumpy' because Jinx annoys me!" she says.

"Because she knows she can annoy you. If you just laugh it off or roll with it, she'll stop. If anything, you two might get along and be friends."

Raven looks at you skeptically, then continues walking.

The five of you arrive at a point on the other side of the island. Jinx immediately plucks a new blade of grass and focuses on it with her heat. She stays near the edge of the water as a precaution.

"Alright, you've proven you can gather the air around you," you say to Raven. "The other half is bringing in moisture, and that means water."

You look at the water, then over at Jinx as she gets her blade of grass to sizzle. You bring Raven to the water's edge, but several meters away from Jinx.

"Try bringing water to your hand the same way you did the air," you say.

Raven swirls her hand around, eyes focused on the gentle waves that lap up against the dirt edge. It takes about the same amount of time as it did for her to gather air, but she finally gets a stream of water to travel from surface to her hand, and she gathers it into a little floating pool.

"Good, very good," you say. "Make it into droplets, like I did just a moment ago."

Raven squints at the water, and with a suddenly stretching of her fingers, the water bursts and sprinkles the ground.

"Good. Repeat the gathering."

Raven swirls her hand again and gathers up more water.

"When you burst the water this time, try to bring it all back together again."

Raven suddenly stretches out her fingers, the water bursts, and she quickly brings her fingers back together to make a fist. The water sprinkles the ground again.

"Keep trying at it," you say. "Find the bare minimum force it takes to burst the water, that will make it easier to pull it back together."

Raven nods and repeats the process.

"I'll be checking in on Jinx in the meantime," you say quickly.

You jog over to Jinx, who has a new but still tiny flame.

"You're making great progress," you say.

"Thank you," she smiles proudly. "How do I transfer something like this to a fireball?"

"Well, you see how Raven is working on her water and wind?"

"I glance over," she shrugs.

"That is also how it works with fire," you say.

You grab a tuft of grass from the ground and hold it in your hand. You then use your Fire Nature to ignite them.

"Try bringing this flame from my hand to your hand," you say.

Jinx holds her hand out like she's going to grab the flame, but you see she's focusing her mana. However, bringing the fire over is difficult, as fire is always dancing and moving. The grass burns up and the fire goes out.

"Shoot, I almost had it," she says. "Do it again."

"Well, to keep from picking the fields bare," you say.

You snap your fingers, and you create a fireball in an instant.

"Whoa...!" she says. "Is that something I can do once I've mastered this stuff?"

"Yes," you say. "But it's all much more complex than a simple snap of the fingers. In less than a second, I'm bringing in heat energy from around my hand, pumping in mana, and using the friction of my fingers to be the spark that ignites it all."

"Nice," Jinx smiles.

"So try and take this flame from my hand into yours," you say.

Jinx tries again, but it still proves to be difficult. You see the fire start to gravitate towards her, but it doesn't leave your hand.

"Not saying that watching Raven pop water like a balloon and Jinx not making fire jump into her hand is boring or anything," Beast Boy says, "but Cy and I are gonna head inside, see what we can do for dinner tonight."

"Oh, good," Jinx says. "I'm starving. I didn't have all that much for lunch."

"You managed this much on an empty stomach?" you say as Jinx heads towards the tower. "Impressive."

"Thanks," Jinx smiles proudly again.

You look over to Raven and see she is still working bursting and reforming water balls.

"Raven and I will stay a little longer," you say. "You all go on ahead."

"You don't have to babysit me," Raven says as the others leave.

"I'm not," you say. "Didn't I say to loosen up?"

You do your wavy arms again and she does her best not to smile.

"Besides," you say, "this gives us that alone time we wanted."

"I guess so," she says.

*SPOOSH* The water bursts and sprinkles on the ground again.

"Ugh...!" she says. "How is this so hard?"

"You need to embrace your Water Nature," you say. "Be like water itself. Cool and calm, not a care in the world."

"Water gets violent, too, y'know," she says. "Tsunamis, floods, stuff like that."

"Well, for now we go with the calm side of water," you say. "A nice lake, quiet and smooth, aside from the occasional duck quacking or dipping under the surface."

"That's rather specific," Raven smirks.

"Well this one lake I came across was really nice, and that's how it was when I passed by."

Raven closes her eyes to focus, perhaps imagining a lake of her own. She curls her fingers, and then slowly opens them. The water slowly breaks apart into droplets. Then she brings her fingers back in and the droplets come back together.

"Wonderful!" you say. "Now that you've found the level of force needed, you can work on speed. And after speed, you can work on how small you make the droplets."

"Okay but how does this help with making ice?" she asks.

"Gathering water together from droplets is how you gather moisture in the air."

"Oh... Of course."

Raven forms and reforms the water, going faster by small increments.

"There you go," you say.

Raven gets ever faster, and then works to make the droplets smaller and thereby more numerous. She has to slow down to keep track of them all.

"Are you sure you're not bored?" she asks as you sit there and watch.

"I would never be bored watching you," you say.

Raven blushes as she once again reforms the water drops into one.

"How about we join the others for dinner?" she says as she puts the water back in the bay.

"Alright," you say.

You and Raven head inside and ride the elevator up to the top floor. Everyone is gathered in Ops with the leftover Chinese food spread out on the table.

"There you two are," Jinx says. "Rorek Null, BAYBAY~!"

"Titan Club," you say as you put up a Turkish Wolf.

You and Raven sit down together at the end of the couch, Jinx on the other side of you.

"Wish I coulda been there to see that," Jinx says. "Especially to see Ravella~."

Raven scowls as she stares into empty space.

"Raven, relax," you say.

"So like, it was a doppelganger, right?" Jinx asks. "But she acted completely different from normal?"

"Yes, completely different," you say. "It was rather..."

"Strange."

"Strange?" Jinx says.

"Yes, seeing two Ravens in the ring together, completely different in style and personality, it was surreal."

You're going to leave out the adventure inside Raven's mindscape.

"It was also awkward and stupid," Raven says. "Stupid old man."

Raven then grumpily puts fried rice and teriyaki chicken on a plate.

"Something happened when Mad Mod escaped the underground, and I still don't know what," you say.

"Underground?" Jinx says.

"He means the subway," Raven says.

"Oh, right, you're British," Jinx says with a flirtatious tone. "Like Morgan le Fay and James Bond."

"Morgan le Fay is actually a distant relative of mine," you say.

"No way," Jinx says with a surprised smile.

"The sister-in-law to Rorek the Second," you say.

"Wow..." Jinx says. "Wait, the Second? Which one are you again?"

"The Seventh."

"Wow, a long lineage," she says.

"Indeed it is," you say as you make sure to get some teriyaki chicken for yourself.

"Oh, pass that over here," Jinx says.

You pass her the chicken and she takes her share.

"So what magics do you know?" she asks. "I could tell you were doing Restoration Magic, at least of biological things."

"Yes, I'm capable of Restoration magic. Elemental magic, and not just of the Japanese school, that was just my introduction to it. Obviously Levitation and Barrier magics. Physical Enhancement magic--"

"Oooo~, how does that work?" Jinx asks with a coy curiosity.

"I use mana to raise the level of my body's attributes," you say.

"Wow...!"

"Ugh..." Raven says as she rolls her eyes.

"What?" Jinx asks flatly.

"How can you just straight up flirt with my boyfriend, in front of me, when you haven't even officially broken up with yours?!"

"Who says I was flirting?" Jinx says.

"How was any of that NOT?"

"Okay, uh..." Robin says nervously. "Let's just calm down."

"Maybe you're just insecure," Jinx says. "Scared that a smile and laugh will pull your first boyfriend away from you?"

"Like a twig like you could," Raven says.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Jinx asks.

"Ladies, please," you say. "Let's just try to have a civilized meal."

Raven stays quiet as she puts a large scoop of rice in her mouth. Jinx just growls and glares a moment before eating her own food.

After everyone finishes eating, you help throw away the empty boxes as well as the used plates and chopsticks.

"You guys don't mind if I use a spare room for the night, do you?" Jinx asks. "Raven's vote doesn't count."

"Sure," Robin says. "When you go out this door, go left and around the corner and down to the hall. Rorek has the first room past Raven's, but the one at the very end is free."

"Cool," Jinx says. "Oh, you also don't mind if I use a shower? Kid Flash didn't exactly give me much choice when he took me out of Central City."

"Certainly," Starfire says. "There is also a bathroom on that side, last door on the left."

"Thanks," Jinx says as she leaves Ops.

Raven still pouts as she finishes sipping her soda.

"Maybe..." she says.

"Well if you're not up to a movie, how about..."

"Poetry?"

"Oh yeah," Raven says. "We can get started on your material for Saturday."

"Saturday?" Beast Boy asks. "What's Saturday?"

"The Shadowy Scorpion has a poetry reading night," you say.

"All that gloomy~ stuff you don't like," Raven says as she walks back over.

"Ugh, you're right," he grimaces.

"C'mon, let's brainstorm in your room," she says.

You get up and follow Raven out of Ops. You go around the corner to your room, you enter and take your notepad and pencil out of your knapsack.

"Okay," you say as you sit down. "Gloomy. Sad. ... Gloomy."

"Just saying words won't make you feel it," Raven chuckles as she sits with you. "You need to think and remember. What makes you sad? What has made you sad?"

You nod and think.

"Well," you say, "I don't know about sad, but I can admit the family legacy tends to frustrate me to no end."

"That's good," Raven says. "Well, no, I mean, that can work, too. You can use frustration and anger as part of this. Use it to vent, to let it all out."

You nod and start thinking again. You then nod and start firing yourself up to write.

"Umm..." you say.

"What?" she asks.

"Trying to find a good word for 'constant'. But don't worry, I'll get it."

You twiddle the pencil in your fingers. Constant. Persistent. Persistent is good. But, people don't really say "persistent pain"... Idea!

chronic pain.

"That'll work," you say. "Family Tree or binding chain? This bloodline brings chronic pain."

"Ooo, I like that," Raven says.

"Umm..." you say as you tap pencil to paper.

I did not ask for this role
I do not submit to its control

"No, wait," you say. "This is starting to sound too Dr. Seuss in rhythm."

You scratch out that last couplet and try again.

I do not submit to its control

How dare you try to choose MY wife!

"You okay?" Raven asks.

"Huh?" you say quickly.

"You're breathing a little heavy, and you were writing really quickly," she says.

"Oh. Uh. Yeah I'm good. This... got a bit more personal than I thought it was going to."

"It's alright," she says. "Writing in itself is an art, and art is for the sake of expressing stuff like this in a productive way."

You nod as she leans against you, which is oddly comforting.

"I bet you feel a bit better, though, right?" she asks.

"Yeah. I do feel better."

"Good," she says. "And don't think this has to be the one you read. We can keep trying, rewriting it so it feels right."

"Well I suppose I'd also need to take time to rehearse it," you say.

"I look forward to that," she says with a smile.

"Are you serious?!" Raven says, sitting straight up.

"Raven, don't--" you say as you hold her back by her cloak.

"Let me go!" Raven says.

"I said 'sorry'," Jinx says as she slips out of the doorway, but then peeks her head in. "Though, I could use a change of clothes while mine are being washed."

Raven still growls at Jinx.

"Hold on, I'll resize something of mine," you say.

"What?" Raven says. "No!"

"Wait you can resize clothes?" Jinx asks.

"Clothing Alchemy," you say as you rummage through your bag for the tags.

"I said 'no'," Raven says. "She's not wearing anything of yours."

"Then are you going to loan her anything?" you ask Raven.

"Well, no..." Raven grumbles.

"Then I'm loaning her something," you say. "She can't very well go around naked, can she?"

"Yeah, Raven," Jinx scolds sarcastically. "Some girlfriend you are, letting another girl be naked around him."
