So because they operate heavily in China so it was statistically more likely a Chinese man would be removed, it's racist?

There wouldn't be an international incident if United hadn't beaten the fuck out of a paying customer.

What the article conveniently leaves out is that he was asked 4 times to exit the plane and one of the times they got him out he ran back on to the plane. I'm not saying his bloody nose was justified but CNN does a terrible job of not telling the whole story.

There are other articles detailing the whole thing. If you wanna read one of those then do that. What this article details is that the story has turned international.

He was asked 4 times and he had every right to refuse to leave. Maybe they should've offered more fucking money to get people to leave instead of giving up after offering $800 like a bunch of cheap fucks.

The article also retells the incident and they left off the other side of the story but thank God they let me know what a Chinese comedian that has been on David Letterman has to say about the incident. It's bad journalism when you have to go to other media sources to read the full story.

Also a reimbursement of $800 for a flight is pretty damn good. A nonstop flight from Chicago to Louisville tickets are currently $221, the same flight that guy was on.

I don't think you read very many news articles. If they included the original story with every update, the articles would be twice as long. That's why they give a brief summary. If you want the full story, go look it up.

Also, $800 is jack shit. You're actually entitled to far more than that.

The guy even suffered a concussion. You can clearly see one of the officers dragged him off the seat and his head violently hit the armrest of the seat across the hallway.

If the guy sues, it's gonna cost them a bit more than $800.

I still remember when I flew to Texas once the airliner offered $400 bucks, Free Plane ticket and a free Hotel stay for overbooking...I was eating at the time, and some guy leaped up and took the offer before I could react.

I mean, to some $800 bucks is still nice piece of change...I really don't know why no one wouldn't take it. They must had alot of well off people on that flight.

Kept on raising the money offer until people took it.

Not beat the fuck out of a paying customer.

Figured out a way to shuttle their staff around that didn't involve kicking customers off of planes they've already boarded, randomly selected somebody else when this guy's flight turned out to be time-sensitive, handled the overbooking (though it wasn't really an overbooking) at check-in instead of after boarding such that dealing with a belligerent passenger wouldn't have to be so violent... The guy could probably have been more reasonable about his objection, but United did a lot of things very wrong here, and a man was seriously injured as a result. They absolutely should be held accountable for that, and for doing everything that can be done on their end to prevent such a series of events from ever happening again.

I agree with adjl. The way I see it, they have two alternative options, one bad, one good.

1. Find another person to kick off the flight. However, after seeing one person successfully refuse, others are likely to follow suit if they don't want to be ejected.

2. Find another flight for their last employee, make due with the 3, or shuffle things around so they could get another employee onto the flight from another location and send the 4th employee to cover the replacement. This wouldn't be too difficult.

The additional money offer isn't a bad idea either, but people could still refuse. However, it should've been tried, at the very least.

this story is nonsense tbqh

This wasn't cash, but coupons, basically. From the sounds of it on another site, not even good ones, instead it was several $50 coupons that didn't stack and would expire. You would simply get a discount on multiple flights if you did them all in time.

Well, I wasn't aware of that...the news stories always stated it was $800 Cash (maybe on a debit card or check) offered.

I know when that offer came for my flight, the attendant clearly said 'Cash'.
