Don't think I will be getting through all of Palace 7 tonight because damn it is long. Unless some other stuff happens I'm 100% convinced Makoto is the best character in this game. I'm also positive who my least 2 favorites are and am not surprised since I figured they would be a long time ago.

Seeing as I just finished new game plus and seeing as people are doing their character rankings, I guess I will do it too.

Main Cast:

Makoto > Futaba > Yusuke > Morgana > Ann > Ryuji > Haru

I loved the main party with my only issue being that Haru needed more screen time. She just joins too late.

Overall Top 5:

Makoto > Futaba > Sojiro > Yusuke > Goro

Persona 5 had an especially strong cast of characters. By the end, many of them feel like really friends you've know for a long time.

I feel like I could give a more in depth review of the game, but I'll do that later if I do. Overall though, it's an Incredible game and an easy 10/10 for me. Actual gives Zelda competition for GOTY. Not sure which I prefer to be honest. Also like Zelda, it joins my personal favourite games list.

Just beat. 102 hrs, though the final boss went down at the 100 hr mark. Yoshitsune is broken as all hell, as always.

I get the sense that they had to throw in Yaldabaoth just so the game could have that godlike figure at the end for the team to take down. Ending it with Shido's defeat would probably be good in a narrative sense, but then you don't get "Pillage him, SATANAEL!!!" Clever way to make use of the Igor VA change though.

The reveals of Yaldabaoth and Morgana's purpose probably felt a bit thrown in because Morgana's arc wasn't quite as top of mind as the main Phantom Thieves storyline. It was an okay way to wrap things up, but I can also see where it doesn't have quite the feeling of satisfaction that sealing Nyx or taking out Izanami had. Guess they couldn't figure out a way to make Shido being Yaldabaoth work so they went with a fake Igor.

Like the memes say: Gotta summon Satan to shoot God in the head to save Christmas.

Loved how they ended the game with the Thieves driving Joker home personally. Wake Up and Get Out There playing in the final scene was great.

The Confidants in this game were amazing. In both gameplay and story, they felt a lot better woven in to the main plotline a lot better than they have in the past. And the best part is how every one of the non-story relevant Confidants figure you out as a Phantom Thief at the very end.

Music wise: Time will tell, but right now I wanna say this is better than 3 and 4's OST. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th dungeons had standout tracks, Blooming Villain and Keeper of Lust are superb boss tracks, Rivers in the Desert is fantastic, and Last Surprise is probably second only to Wiping All Out as far as Persona battle themes go. But there's a good chance of recency bias, so I'll have to revisit this in a few months.

Finally, a quick word on my personal OTP: Joker/Queen. I figure Makoto's Confidant was on the weaker side to compensate for the fact that she's such a strong story presence. But they did a solid job on the rest of her romance scenes, from Christmas Eve to Valentine's, and the side stuff as well. Couldn't help but smirk during a few of the scenes, especially when you give a smartass response. Also, shoutout to the cheesy jazz romance track.

Will likely start up NG+ in a few days. I want to shoot for max Confidants and fusing the NG+ exclusive Persona. Hopefully I have the cash to pull out my Big Three: Yoshitsune, Trumpeter, and Cybele.

Ok I think I'm pretty comfortable saying this is my favorite Persona game at this point based on the first 3 months of gameplay or so. The gameplay is noticeably better; there's been more good cathartic moments; and the entire story and whatnot just feels a lot more thematically cohesive than previous games. And if anyone here hasn't played P3/P4, that last statement is REALLY saying something, since those games were pretty much already the best of the best in that department that I know of.

And I guess this game may have to go a little further to top the godlike ending that Persona 3 had, but I'll be damned if I'm not expecting fantastic things from this game now.

Oh and I just got through the hot pot dinner on 6/11 and that was pretty much as good as any party interaction moment from Persona 3 or 4 honestly. I don't really even think I'd say there's a shortage of those in this game--it's more that almost every time they are interacting it's somehow related to the Phantom Thieves aspect of their lives, so it doesn't really feel the same.

I am interested to see if they do anything big with the story once I catch up to the timeline in another 2 weeks but gameplay is strong enough over previous games to make it a heavy favorite. They would have to completely botch the ending for me to rank it lower

I don't think that scene is nearly as good as the best P3-4 interactions, but I barely remember the scene. I gotta be close to the ending, but damn this dungeon would probably take me until 2-3 am to finish so I'm just gonna have to stop. P5 is definitely better at like the social linking, dungeons and amount of places to explore. It's a hard comparison to 3 and 4 which are top 2 games of all time for me. I really want this one to be top 3, but the cast just isn't living up to the huge bar P4 set and a top RPG has to have a cast I love. 3-4 even have 2 characters each I don't like and I still consider the casts amazing overall.

Does anyone have a screencap of the text app chat log used in-game that has all/most the characters talking?

Hard Mode is stupid easy on NG+ and I don't want the experience penalty from Merciless, so there really isn't a good difficulty :/

For me, one of the biggest draws in a game is its sense of progression. So NG+ in a persona game isn't anything i ever see myself doing.

Me: She is probably the only teenage girl with curly blonde hair IN ALL OF JAPAN and you can't spot her instantly in a yearbook?! You should be able to scan through the thing like a goddamn flipbook until you spot the one girl who looks like Yellow Carrot Top and be done with whole thing in seconds!

I'm going to get that Makoto theme. Secured my route for Palace 7 so I guess I'll read, play games, social link, etc until the deadline. Makoto is practically the MC at this point and I am loving it. She really blew all the other characters away.
