*shows pictures of a game that had great graphics for the time it was released or a game that intentionally use a cartoony/anime/cel shaded art style without realising they contribute to the feel of the game and that games like Borderland doesn't have bad graphics*

I think the statement is more intended to mean a lot of old games are still good.

anyone who says that doesn't know what they're talking about. graphics aren't be all and end all but to act like they don't matter at all is silly

old games had less agendas imo and actually tried to be the best they could be for those involved playing them imo. A lot of games now are fake. All the AAA games have money behind them and use the same engines so the the graphics are going to be good. It's the substance that matters though. Says a lot about the people making these games imo.

This, while some people are too obsessed about graphics, saying they don't matter would be a lie.

New games are often better tbh. And plenty of indie games are awesome and use retro art style.

also people forget that many of the classic games we nostalgia over had the best graphics for their time.

Was there anything memorable about crysis other than it's graphics?

I disagree. I rarely see games now try something new. Even the best and most polished games. They aren't really doing anything new. you either get games that are broken messes underneath and marketted to say they have so many hours of content vs actual fun gameplay or you have games that just polish a formula and try to remain on top. Its narcissistic imo. It's rare a game comes out that is genuinally fun to play. A lot of gimmicks.

Please. The thing is we tend to remember the best games from the 90s like Zelda, Golden Eyes, Pokemon, Final Fantasy... but most games that were not made by like 6-7 companies were garbage. We all think of Mario bros when we think about the Nes, but look at angry video game nerds.

Same with the 80s, the era of the 80s even if I was not born looked awesome for music, but that's only because the best band survived the test of time. My mother told me there was a ton of pop shit on the radio that most people forgot.

mafia 3 and gta v are a good example of what i'm talking about. style over substance in two very different ways. GTA has basically polished the formula to narcisstic levels with the perfect amount of side content and lack of glitches and attention to detail but does absolutely nothing new and ends up feeling unappealing. If anything it's just streamlined what they've done in the past with better graphics. Mafia 3 on the other hand could have done a lot with the whole racism aspect but instead does none of it. Actually removes features like the cops being able to stop you for speeding vs expanding on it.

I see this in life with people too. Everyone thinks they know what love is and it's just a face they put on as they are stabbing you in the back. It's not genuine. Some people sure will realize when they are doing things wrong. A lot of people don't.

The fact I even think these things is a truth in and of itself. Different coat of paint. Different face. Same crap.

They end up pandering too with all this pc crap as well vs actually creating something genuinally good and authentic.

Graphics matter to me. I recently got Ryse for free, and while the gameplay was a little barebones (but still fun), the fact that it is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played is what kept stringing me along to the end

i honestly think most of these companies are more scared of being sued vs actually making something that's authentic.

The fact there is such a focus on what is missing and has been removed from games vs what actually could be done is an issue unto itself. Such is the reality of people nowadays too. They are all copycats.

In turn Mafia 3 gets panned by critics everywhere like that "fat girl" that doesn't stack up to GTA V's "perfection". When really it should have just done something different.

This is how predictable and narcissistic the media has become too.
