all done. really hope they just stop and leave everything as is. A second season about Tyler shooting up the school, or Skye battling with suicide, or the trial, or Justin fixing his life, and Alex shooting himself is just not necessary.

i read some reviews that the experts they talked to when writing the show are really pissed because they kinda glorified teenage suicide and they thought it was a real let down

but i love some juicy teenage drams so i'll prolly watch it

Without getting spoilery, I don't think they glorified suicide so much as maybe the main character sent the message that people who didn't give a crap about you will start listening if you do something drastic. But that's like, the issue that the whole show is trying to fight <_<

It was a decent show, all in all. There are definitely moments where you have to willfully suspend your disbelief quite a bit, and the dialogue is very millennial-trash, and obviously certain parts came off as preachy, but all teen drama shows are like that to an extent so it's not that big a deal. (Then again, I love shows like Degrassi, which is all about the hip lingo and preachy drama~)

They show a very graphic suicide scene which is glamorizing the act. But yes

That's the really big issue.

That scene was graphic and all, but I had a much harder time watching her rape scene. The way she just goes limp and stops caring? yeesh.

That was also a tough scene.

The suicide scene reminded me of a scene in The Royal Tenenbaums and I had difficulty watching that as well.

Oh. What's up with the high school kids being fully tattooed? Like they haven't graduated and they have sleeves and neck tattoos? Unethical artists

What? That doesn't seem at all out of place to me. At my high school, I'd say 30-40% of the students had tattoos by the middle of their junior year, some earlier (usually with parental consent, sometimes without). If you didn't have one by then, a whole bunch of people got their first one for their 18th birthday.

I have a slew of ideas for my own tattoos, too. I was going to get one when I was 17, but I've been putting it off. I think this fall might be the right time, though.

I usually disagree with critics who cry "GLORIFIED!" every time a compelling storyline merges with a serious issue.

Sure-- of course the issue seems emphasized; you feel involved with the characters. Even touchy subjects are emotionally gripping in this way.

Gotta say, though... from what I saw of that show when my fiance was watching it... ChickFlix for sure.

The kids at my high school also had tattoos. One or two small ones in covered areas. The kids in this show are fully covered. Artists generally will not tattoo on under 18s, and reputable artists will definitely not be giving hands and neck tattoos to teens.

Guess I'm not the only one that felt that.

You mean the show was aimed at women? I dunno about that...

Side note: I think the show suffered from "everyone in high school is attractive"-itis. It sort of makes sense that the popular kids and jocks would be good looking, but the uninvolved kid who works at the movie theater? The girl who was bullied? The photographer for the yearbook? Literally everyone in the high school locker room? None of them are average or below average looking? Ehh

I mean, I dunno what to say lol. When I say 30-40% had tattoos, I mean that 3-40% had highly visible, big tattoos, including sleeves and neck/hands/lower leg tattoos, and even a few face tattoos. The amount of tattoos in the show actually made it more real to me. I know that around here at least, you can get a tattoo under 18 if your parents sign off on it, and I guess it just wasn't a big deal. I also knew some sketchier kids who would either tattoo you themselves, or had a cousin/uncle/friend who would do it for you if you couldn't get your parents to say yes. Really wasn't at all an issue.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I think it was mostly the broken kids and the lower status kids that had tattoos, no? I don't recall Hannah, Jessica, Bryce, or Clay having tattoos, and they all came from pretty well-off families. Tony, Skye, and a lot of lower characters had them, and we know that there's a bit of a class issue in this town Hannah mentions at least once that her family is losing money and had to move to a poorer neighborhood; Tony says the police on his side of town aren't as good as the ones on Clay's side; Zach and a lot of other kids are worried about tapes getting out because they could lose scholarships

Tattoos are expensive and it takes a long time to accumulate that much ink. It was pretty weird looking to me. But I graduated in 2004, stuff may be different. The teen volunteers I work with rarely have visible tattoos and none of them have hand, face, or neck ink. And definitely not full sleeves.

as in kids who volunteer? <.< Yeah, those aren't the type (generally speaking, from my experiences) to get sleeves and neck tattoos. Doesn't mean a lot of other high school kids don't have 'em.

All high school kids are required to accumulate volunteer hours here so we see all kinds of kids, often. Our adult volunteers are heavily inked and all of the staff at this nonprofit has at least one tattoo... Other than the high school senior that works here on the weekend.

It may be normal in other areas. It was just immersion ruining for me.

My fiancé gave it a thumbs up and she started watching it a few days ago and was already on episode 8 or 9 I think. I was too busy watching Supernatural seasons 8-12... still can't believe this show is still going.

Yeah.... my high school had a volunteer requirement, too. We had to do 25 hours a year, and I can guarantee that over half the students lied. They'd write something on a paper, give a name, and then write a phone number and email that belonged to someone they knew would lie for them, or that didn't exist. With 2,500 students, there was no way our 3 counselors were going to fact-check all (or any) of them.

Like I said, from my experience, kids with heavy ink weren't the type to willingly volunteer

I'm a teacher and all my students were talking about it so I watched it.

Summary:
- 40 minutes of the episode was Clay on a bike with indie music in the background
- 10 minutes were actual content
