Probably the fifth topic, I don't remember. I noticed the old topic purged a while ago and I figured warm weather coming into full effect is a good opportunity to get discussion going again.

Post about your goals, progress and victories, as usual. I don't really have much to contribute at the moment except that yard work does a good job of compelling me to go outside. I went through a really bad time personally from November to about the start of April, but thankfully I only gained a couple of pounds. I had no energy for anything though so I need to get myself reacquainted with the routine.

I've been thinking of this topic and wishing it were here. But if I made it, it would feel like BlogFAQs. Thanks for doing it!

Excuse time: One negative side effect of hanging out with friends is that I don't cook on the weekend much. Most of my cooking happens on the weekend since weeknights are busy. As a result, my nutrition has probably been suffering (along with my finances!) - but I don't think I could imagine turning down a social activity in favor of doing chores. Think I've gained a bit of fat from it. #firstworldproblems

The warm weather for me has meant the return of my bike commute. It's quite hilly, which frustrates my weak-ass legs. But after canceling my unlimited public transport pass, I now have a financial incentive to use the bike-share program. Part and parcel with that is getting up earlier, because I'd prefer to shower after the bike commute at the nearby gym. It all works out great - but it all hinges on the discipline of waking up early enough to have the time, and sleeping enough to have the strength for the (short - just 3 mile) bike ride. One downside: the cycling makes it tougher to squat.

Hit some nice PRs on the bench press lately. A clean 1RM a few weeks ago and a clean 5RM on Saturday PM.

What's everyone's favorite daily workout? Favorite specific exercise?

Voluntarily waking up early (5:01 AM) as part of a routine has been tough, but it's been one of the prouder achievements I've had over that stretch of time. It took a little while, but it paid big dividends for my mental health. Even if I'm still lacking discipline on getting to bed on time, I'm still waking up at just about the same time every day and getting naps in if I have to. Consistency is so important.

My favorite exercises are always anything involving legs and the butt. Muscles in my shoulders and neck seem to fatigue easily and I lack tenacity, so that tends to limit my commitment to those. In fact, my neck has been perpetually tense for a few weeks now, making it difficult to turn my head to the left or right.

Had an amazing workout today, after about 3 weeks of shit/fatigue/crap ones

Left work feelin a bit tired, but not terrible
downed my preworkout

Monday is chest/bicep 'bro' day.

315 x 4 on bench, never did more than 315 x 3 before. Guy said he helped me a tad on the 4th rep, so maybe 315 x 3.5 or something.

I've mentioned a few times that i broke both my knees and ankle years ago, and every day i go to the gym ive been doing more lateral movement stuff/bosu ball stuff for trying to improve balance. Today was amazing on the bosu ball, using it flat surface side to rotate around in a circle for 5 rotations before losing my balance. Was happy as hell for that.

Short-ish sleep last night and it was super-dreary and dark, so I didn't bike this morning, but still went to the gym. Really short workout due to being drained, but at least I did 60 pullups. (Maybe I shouldn't have done that and should have just done other back exercises, since pullups are hte most draining of back exercises, but whatever.)

I encountered a herd of deer while out on my run. They seemed to be enjoying the cover of fog.

Also my neck continues to be okay. Guess all I needed to do was exercise a bit.

Yesterday I signed up for a gym, today was my first official workout. Even had a fitness instructor help me out.
Holy crap, did she show me just how out of shape I truly am. I think I sweat off 10 pounds from the exercise alone. I hate how exhausted I was after only 30-45 minutes. They say the journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step, I didn't realize how big that first step could be.

But.... I want to keep doing this. I'm tired of being in the shitty shape I am, I need to dig myself out of this hole while I'm still young(I'll be 29 in May). I have a nasty habit of leaving things unfinished, of getting bored of something and just ignoring it. I pray that this isn't one of those things. If I'm suffering now, I can't imagine doing all of this when I'm 40, or 60. Assuming I even live that long. So I have to do this now.

Step 1/1000 miles....

I'm glad that you got in there, DYL. Day 1 can be very discouraging, but it can also serve to reinforce what you already knew was the case about your condition and make you even more resolute in clearing the hurdle. Which appears to be the case.

I hope your next session went/goes well!

Just wanting to log my process. I haven't been exercising as much as I'd like but I've really changed my eating habits. I started 4/10 at 275.6 and after 3 weeks I'm at 267.6, 8 pounds!

I'm aiming to get down in the 200-220 region depending on how it carries.

as an addendum - that FAQ (start at: https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/212-/53121832#8 ) is good if you just want a primer

If you want a forum to discuss, you can try the ones on forum.bodybuilding.com - the boards that are strictly about routines and exercise are good, and those stickies have lots of information, too.

And if you just want to ask questions in a friendly environment then obviously this topic is here for you. Can't guarantee that you'll be getting the most credible advice though!

No dedicated exercise this weekend, but I was working my butt off hauling a bunch of 50-year-old ham radio equipment to a specialized flea market. The old men who buy and sell these things jokingly call them boat anchors for a reason.

At least I made some cash, even if I screwed up my sleep cycle and will probably have a backache tomorrow.

a mile and some change today

I didn't actually have to go anywhere but I took the initiative to go on a long walk just for the sake of doing it. compare this to my usual tendencies which are a bit 'easier' in terms of motivation; usually I have to get somewhere and I choose to walk rather than drive just because walking is better. today I didn't "have" to do anything but I chose to walk just for the sake of walking.

woke up, didn't go to the gym
took care of my morning business, didn't go to the gym
ate lunch, didn't go to the gym
realized I didn't have time before work, and went out for the day
got home, ate dinner, and didn't go to the gym
finally I looked at youtube, and my recommended links was full of workout videos for some reason

Then I went to the gym.

My everything felt kinda weak from the weekend, lifting objects and moving them around, except for my legs, which were kinda itching to move around, so obviously that's what I did. Tuesday is the morning I meet with a trainer to keep myself from completely slipping, though, and I dunno if I'll be up to much of anything. Then again, home less than an hour, and I feel like I could do more legs...

walking is awesome. since (by choice) i no longer have an unlimited public transit, when i went to an event last night, i walked the mile or so. been doing that about once a week to go to meetups at this cafe.

walking is actually one of my favorite things so I barely even consider it exercise. it's more a good excuse to get out there and clear my head for a while. like normally when I'm walking I don't do anything else except think. so I'd say it's more similar to meditation than physical activity for me.

interesting. yeah I used to be very much an indoors person but I got very sick and was bedridden for about 2 months in my early 20's after that I pretty much hated laying around since I was forced to do it for so long and that's when I got super into walking. I guess we sort of have a similar origin story...

I do think being bedridden for a few months and still having frequent knee pains (especially when i play the occasional basketball game or something) has caused me to enjoy slow paced walking more, and also just wanting to be outside and breath fresh air and what not. Sorry to hear about your situation, we do seem to have the same origin story for this.

Nah its fine I've said it in past topics. When I was 18 a few weeks before starting college (and cross country at college) I went to a nearby lake and jumped off a cliff trying to impress people. Broke both knees and saw my right ankle bone sticking out of my foot. Happened in 2005 and feels like yesterday at times but they are feeling better the past few years after some treatments

So ive been doing yoga at a local studio lately (past few months). Yesterday i finally felt some muscle changes in my lower back, something id been having problems with for a while (unrelated to broken knees/ankle i THINK). I do the "easy" classes due to my aforementioned knees, but i highly recommend it. Seems to be helping with overall posture and muscle related issues
