The teen fell ill after smoking marijuana with a friend. Within a few days, he was on death's door and was denied a lung transplant because marijuana was found in his system. The family was searching for other hospitals, and University of Pennsylvania agreed to accept him, however, he died after surgery due to complications.

"He ate a big meal with his family at his sister Summer’s house in Salt Lake City, then went to hang out with the same old friend he saw every Thanksgiving. Riley smoked some weed, something he rarely did.

On Black Friday, Riley told his father, Mark, that he wasn’t feeling well, so he spent the weekend resting and watching movies.

By Friday, still sick and feeling worse, Riley returned to the clinic, had a lung X-ray, and was told he had pneumonia. That night, as Riley struggled to breathe, his father rushed him to the hospital. Within days, he was on life support at the University of Utah Hospital, machines doing the jobs his sickened organs could no longer handle."

Seems like he smoked a little weed, which apparently he did before, got sick with something super severe, and a couple hospitals were dicks because "trace weed!!!" (I mean it was Utah), and the kid died after surgery.

Maybe the guy he was smoking with recently had been sick or was getting sick also, chances are both their lips were touching the joint or bowl or whatever they were smoking transferring germs that cause illness.

This. The only way you can claim it contributed to his death is because he was denied a transplant since he tested positive for it

What it sounds like is the kid got pneumonia, had shitty lungs, and a bunch of Mormon hospitals told him no cause it's Utah. Guy finally gets accepted and gets the surgery at a good hospital and dies after said surgery.

I think the story is more about how shitty laws are because him smoking marijuana should have no influence.

Hmmmm....seems like marijuana might not of been an issue. I know University of Utah isn't BYU, but they're also federally funded. They probably couldn't because the feds would of been upset somehow. They also have to have some kind of Mormon leadership somewhere along the chain or some kind of Mormon-influence from something. It's Utah, and Utah's biggest city. Not trying to "Mormon bash" or anything, just saying they have different beliefs and hold them fairly strongly; not saying it's right or wrong, just stating the facts.

Sure it does. She's being disingenuous in assuming my topic is specifically about marijuana causing his illness. I've already previously stated if he were to ingest it he likely would not have had the same outcome.

My topic is clearly stated, and it regards "smoking". The teen happened to have smoked marijuana. I've also posted a Smithsonian article that states some marijuana is contaminated with fungus and heavy metals---that certainly can't be healthy--especially when smoked.

To say that smoking a substance (in this case marijuana) played absolutely no roll whatsoever in a lung related illness that quickly followed after smoking is naive.
