Imagine being so desperate to slag another system that you can't even correctly describe the game.

I'm getting the PS4 version. I don't have a Switch and, even if I did, I wouldn't pay $10 extra for that version.

From what I recall, Puyo Puyo Tetris was a relatively interesting crossover. I'm surprised Sega is finally giving Puyo a chance outside Japan again.

I just looked it up and it's mildly similar but to basically call them the same like this is pretty wrong

Maybe you can enlighten me on the main differences? As I've played both and they feel the same to me.

Leave Tetris out of this as it's not traditionally part of Puyo Puyo.

-the way you clear gems, the core element of the game, is completely different: in puzzle fighter you connect same-colored gems to a special gem instead of just connecting four or more same-colored puyos
-scoring in puyo is based mostly on how much you can chain puyo destruction and not just how many you destroy at once
-nuisance puyo get eliminated when adjacent colored puyos are destroyed, whereas the garbage blocks in puzzle fighter have a count down until they become regular gems
-while garbage blocks can be countered in both games, certain puyo games allow you to continuously delay the drop of garbage by consecutively clearing with your drops
-puyo has all sorts of modes and varieties that puzzle fighter just doesn't have

to be honest, the fact that the fundamental part of the game (clearing) is completely different is enough to see how different the games are

Yeah I have to say as well, even though the match puzzles tend to look similar, stuff like Bejeweled, Destruct- (I forget the title), Puzzles and Dragons, Puyo Puyo, Tetris, Tetris attack

They all play EXTREMELY differently

Well fair points, although I disagree that the game is "completely different" If you like one, you'll probably like the other even if you prefer one over the other. It's similar enough in the same way that Bejeweled is similar to Candy Crush or Chuzzle, or that Zuma is similar to Luxor at heart despite some core mechanics being different.

Bejeweled Vs. Candy Crush is honestly a big difference as well. The reason why they feel so similar is they use very similar burst. 4 match, 5 match, cross, they do practically the same thing, but Candy Crush isn't really about speed and can match horizontally, which is a huge difference, thinking wise.

You can match horizontally in bejeweled as well. And Bejeweled also has a puzzle mode that is the same as Candy Crush. The biggest difference is Candy Crush has boards that are not perfect rectangles. where as Bejeweled ONLY has perfect rectangles

Wait... you can match horizontally in Bejeweled? Perhaps I'm thinking of Tetris attack then. Yeah I guess those 2 games in particular are pretty similar. But try any of the games I've listed above, and you'll find them widely different

While not the same, SPF probably has my favorite gameplay mechanics out of every puzzle game I've played. If it were updated and had more modes and they went even further with the health system, it would be better than Puyo Tetris by a mile.

But as it is outdated in many ways and is lacking in the modes department, PPT is probably my favorite of the genre.
