I know it's been asked before, but while I fully understand the pros/cons of each option, I'm tearing my hair out trying to decide >_<

You can skip MG and MG2 though. But definitely play MGS1 first.

That's idiotic, considering mg 1 and 2 are the best ones. There's a reason the series takes a nosedive after mgs, which in itself was just a remake of the previous 2 mg

Also I was just saying that if MG1 and MG2 are too dated to get through it's fine to skip them. I'd guess like 80%+ of MGS fans today have not played them.

playing them in chronological order is completely idiotic because it will spoil massive parts of the story for you, and a lot of the stuff that the prequel games explore will be of absolutely no relevance if you havent played some of the other games.

also you can skip the NES metal gear games and MGSV (trash). just go 1 -> 2 -> Snake Eater -> 4.

what? portable ops had reall ysolid reviews and was def a decent game. it's not like it's DMC2 of the series or something

it definitely has some importance, you get a lot of backstory about the characters that appear in PW

PW follows right after portable ops IIRC

honestly, it's a really solid game

Will definitely be playing the MSX games as well, I miss the retro days. And from what little I've seen, they're apparently quite good for being on such limited hardware.

Because I've only played 1/3 of the games, and opinions are fun. As I said, I've been debating which way I wanted to do it.
