I get that it's on me to be someone that's appealing to the opposite sex.

Thing is, I feel I've been making progress on that front. I take more care in my appearance and I try to be a happier person, someone whose company people would enjoy.

So why am I not happier? Why does it feel like I'm wearing an involuntary mask? One that automatically slips on when I'm around people, and comes off the second I'm alone with my thoughts?

Cause until I fix that problem, crushes are gonna suck.

Same here, crushed on a girl real hard, really fell for her personality. We hung out, it was pretty obvious she was also into me, but then comes a bombshell. She's a freakin single mother, which is way more baggage than I can handle. No we're still in the same class, and I'm left here feeling like crap knowing that no matter how good of a match we are, it can't work because she has a kid.

Well my track record is poor with crushes. My advice for getting over bad crushes:

- Distance yourself, at least emotionally. But basically if you can keep yourself a bit distant emotionally it helps me at least get less involved emotionally with a person. Physical separation itself can somewhat help too - outta sight, outta mind, so to speak - but might not be ideal if you're friends and want to maintain the friendship.

- Try hanging out with other girls or looking at other girls. It might help distract you in a sense. Fixation can definitely be problematic.

For what it's worth, from the selfie of you I saw, you look pretty good tbh, I don't think you need to make more effort there. And your personality is generally pretty good too, at least to me.

I'm trying man, but I tend to see her on the commute, where there aren't many other people around to talk to instead. Plus I can't change my commute <_<

All you can really do is focus on something else. As long as you don't do what some dudes do and flip the fuck out when they're rejected everything will eventually work out.

And honestly when I stopped giving a fuck about that kind of thing is when things started working out for me. That doesn't mean you should stop working on yourself physically, because you should be doing that for yourself anyway, but it's kind of like a weight lifted when you don't put as much stock in it. Builds confidence too. You're a strong independent individual that don't need no woman
