That was the easiest way to make decent money as a non-member with no "job". When I became a member It varied depending on the day. Usually hours upon hours of woodcutting though. You might have made what seemed like a lot of money to a newbie, but for a high level player that would have just been chump change ;) I used to do that too when I was a noob. Anyway, in Old School Runescape, you can make a lot of money doing PvM, basically killing bosses over and over trying to get really good drops. Both versions of runescape (runescape 3 and old school runescape) have items worth more than 1 billion GP. All the GE did was make it so people don't have to actually meet up with each other to trade, and it also makes buying random useless items for quests way easier. I was trying to sell a poisoned rune dagger in Falador and for some reason a guy traded me a dwarf multi-cannon for it. Sold it for like 650k and only through that was I finally able to afford full rune and eventually a dragon battle axe (was still the most powerful weapon back when I played). I forgot what mining is like in OSRS though.
