The thing still seems to be selling really well. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks like it's going to sell gangbusters and will continue the momentum they started with Zelda. Splatoon 2 will likely tell a similar story.
I thought things would be chugging along just okay until the Christmas season. I thought it would be tough for them missing the Christmas period last year. But overall it seems to have worked out for the best. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... Copied to Clipboard!

It would have sold regardless of when it was released and we really can't say anything about sales.
With all the "people didn't even know what the Wii U was", it sold 3 million in 6 weeks. What's the Switch by 6 weeks? 3.2 maybe? 2.7 in the first month. Also it's doing really good in the US and Japan, but it's been pretty easy to find in Europe and Australia, which speaks more about other factors like scalpers. --- It all just disappears, doesn't it? Even if half were still fans, you have 7 million potentials. Couple that with a HUGE problem with scalpers that has slowly gotten worse and worse each Nintendo product, and things get muddier in really saying anything of note for this launch other than that it seems to be doing better than the Wii U. I don't think the scalper explanation holds much water. It's not impossible to find one at the standard price. I don't think it would be very profitable for scalpers to do this like it was with Amiibo and the NES Classic. It's also way more expensive to buy.
We're two months after launch now and it's still selling great. Mario Kart 8 just came out and will give the Switch more momentum. Splatoon 2 will add some more momentum and then they just have a few more months until the holiday season which they should have no problem at all continuing to sell. Besides this topic is about the March launch being a good idea. Which it was. Not about long term success. At the very least their first year looks to be covered well. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... To me bringing up it is selling out means nothing. If it is selling over what the Wii U sold by the end of the year, then you'll have an argument that this was a good idea. Right now the shortages are not creating this conversation about the Switch that Nintendo desperately wants to happen. Most everyday people have already forgot that it even released. My point was that there's enough of a Nintendo fanbase along with scalpers to give the perception that everything is fine because of fucking course they're gonna buy. Scalpers know Nintendo is a money maker. Just hang out on CAG for a bit and you'll see. Darmik posted... Amiibos are significantly cheaper. No. The new Zelda amiibo are once again extremely hard to find. The AC amiibo came out right when they started flooding the amiibo market, including the AC ones. They eventually realized shit ain't selling because stores were clearancing all amiibo, not just AC ones and now we're back to the same shit because Nintendo cut supply. --- It all just disappears, doesn't it? Mk8 online is super fun and you best believe splatoon 2 is gonna be similar. It's the first and only online mp "shooter"(since it's much more than that) for switch. Plus it carries with it a reputation of being fun and even having a presence in competitive tournaments.
For the moment, I'm playing Lego city undercover for my sp fun and mk8 online for my mp needs. All portable. Haven't touched Zelda in a while. I beat it but still have a lot of stuff to do. Decided to shelve it and come back later. But by the time I'll have had my fill of what I got for the moment, splatoon 2 will be out --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

You're right. The Wii sold at a rate of 36k/day in November and 15k in December. The Switch sold 31k/day for a month and that's all the data we have. It's not much different. The Switch has already outsold the holiday period for Wii U in March alone. It's still continuing to sell out. So yeah it is different unless they only have like 50k Switch units for April. DoctorVader posted... I've already said you can't possibly sit in Australia and judge the US market when you asked a bunch of questions pretty much clarifying that you don't know s*** about the scalper market here. You didn't answer my question. You're telling me it's scalpers so I'm asking you how much of the sales do you actually believe to be scalpers? --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... Copied to Clipboard!

In the US, but not overall which is why I keep adding that scalpers are a much bigger problem this time and it's a known thing with Nintendo fans, so some slightly different numbers doesn't imply much because there are different factors involved. Denying scalping is not a huge issue with Nintendo is being delusional, especially since you're not from the US. Also, for all you know, there were in fact 50k units in April seeing as it just got restocked on April 28 and had nothing before it besides scraps. Darmik posted... You didn't answer my question. You're telling me it's scalpers so I'm asking you how much of the sales do you actually believe to be scalpers? A large enough amount that it's a valid claim. Just hang out on r/NintendoSwitch or CAG and you'll see stories of obvious scalpers bringing 8 or 9 people to buy the entire stock at a time and online sellers having 20+ Switches to sell or even the Switch board here where there's a topic every few days bragging about how much money is being made. Shit like that obviously affects things when there's a general perception that started about 3 years ago that Nintendo products = money makers. It's like I'm sitting here going "yeah, I follow baseball really closely" and you coming in and going "The Lakers are gonna beat the Yankees this year" and me facepalming. At no point have I even said you're 100% wrong in the stuff you're seeing. Just that, let's wait and see. --- It all just disappears, doesn't it? What if it's significantly more than 50k? Presumably scalping was an issue in the first month and they sold over 900k. What's the ballpark figure for when it's not just scalpers buying the thing? What's your expectation for 2017? Were you unimpressed by the PS4 launch because of scalpers too? DoctorVader posted... A large enough amount that it's a valid claim. Japan sales are quite interesting so far. It's a hit there for sure.
