How does that bury the artificial shortage "meme?" If anything, it confirms it. Since they can apparently ship out massive amounts of consoles by plane at any time and choose not to do so.

It's prohibitively expensive. these things usually ship by... ship. That's why it's called shipping.

So when you order something with 2 day shipping on Amazon but live in the same state as the facility, they're just putting your order onto a ship so it can take a trip around the Atlantic for a couple of days before you get it?

TIL: ordering a box of soap from Amazon warehoused two states over is the same thing as ordering over a million consoles from the manufacturer in China.

Can't wait to see you go back on your word and not close your account when the switch surpasses the wiiu sales

I can't wait to see how you try to avoid giving Nintendo any blame for it not even reaching Wii U numbers and when 3rd parties inevitably announce they're dropping support

Will you blame the marketing again? I don't think that excuse will fly this time around

"Artificial shortage" controversy aside, seems a lot of folks don't know how shipments get from place to place if they think that shipping by plane is some astronomical number greater than shipping via boat/freighter....

Y'all trying too hard.

Not only is it more expensive, but a plane carries much less than a ship. So you end up shipping less units for more money. There is a reason air-mail is fucking expensive as fuck.

And the "fake demand" myth doesnt exist because common sense dictates so. Why dont you stop trolling? You are the only person on gamefaqs who saw a troll say "fake demand" and then unironically thought it was true.

Now this is shitposting.

No they are not. The video I posted shows retailers from the 90s complaining about what I brought up and common sense says if they have a reputation for deliberately understocking retailers to falsify a sense of high demand for literally decades and the Switch is constantly sold out everywhere.

What does that mean? Artificial scarcity

ZP, nintendo predicted 2 million units sold in their first month but it sold over 2.7 million. These are absolute facts you can look up. This means there was more demand than they predicted, which created a shortage that wasn't artificial.

I also provided PROOF that nintendo shipped consoles by plane, a much more expensive shipping method, to somewhat address the higher demand. This proves they did not want to have shortages and went to great lengths to not have them.

These are pure facts. Let's see your evidence for switch artificial shortage other than speculation based on decades old anecdotal evidence.

I'm waiting.

Yes because Nintendo would admit they're creating an artificial shortage instead of posting fluffed up predictions made after the demand for their product demand has risen though their understocking of retailers

Because the word of retailers who dealt with Nintendo's artificial scarcity decades ago is "annecdotal evidence " but Nintendo's fluffed up numbers aren't and are solid fact

GTF with that shit, either post solid hard numbers from a 3rd party who can be trusted or admit you can't accept that Nintendo really isn't your friend and only sees you as a head if cattle

Just to dance on your grave, heres the text from the article:

Full text from /r/games:

TOKYO— Nintendo Co. NTDOY 5.62% said it used aircraft to ship its new Switch videogame machine in its first month on the market, an unusual and costly logistics measure responding to unexpectedly high demand.

Earlier, Nintendo said it shipped 2.74 million units of the Switch in the month after it went on sale March 3, up from an initial plan of two million.

“We carried some of the Switches by plane in March to serve our customers more promptly,” a company spokesman said. He said Nintendo switched back in April to less-expensive sea freight to replenish store shelves.

Nintendo didn’t say where the planes were used, but analysts and others briefed on the logistics said the flights took Switch machines to the U.S. and Europe from factories in China.

Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda said further use of airfreight was possible because the item remains hard to find at retailers globally. “Air is a big profit-squeezer because it could cost additional ¥5,000 per unit,” or about $45, he said.

Waseda Business School professor Atsushi Osanai said it was worth the price to get the product off to a good start.

“It is important that companies sell as many units as possible, as quickly as possible, while customer interest is high,” he said. The initial months are critical for a game machine, because strong hardware sales drive interest from software creators, and a wealth of software titles in turn generates interest in the hardware.

Nintendo said last week it expected to sell 10 million units of the Switch in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2018. > Analysts say the number could be higher based on initial interest in the machine, which can be used both in the living room and on the go.

“We think the 10 million represents a starting point only,” said Macquarie Capital Securities analyst David Gibson. He expects sales of 14.5 million units or more in the fiscal year.
