there was never a "chill" episode with jon there.

with jon, it was always loud and screamy. that's not to say the jon episodes are bad, because they aren't. not all, anyways. but it's just that with danny i find his episodes a lot more enjoyable to listen to.

Jon was way better at reining in Arin from doing stupid stuff. Danny just sits there and laughs at all of his dumb jokes and it really gets annoying since Arin makes some truly terrible "jokes." And don't even get me started on Arin's gaming opinions.


Let's compromise and say that Jon and Dan would have been the best combo.

I stopped watching after Jon broke off. But wasnt that like 3 years ago? Is game grumps still a thing?

I think it wouldn't only sound terrible in the sense that it seems like Jon and Dan were never really friends... but I don't think they have any animosity. I'm just imaging that if they were friends, which they probably would become if they did the show together, then it would be a better dynamic

back when jon was still on gg, he appeared in a NSP video.

i want to say it was jon that introduced danny to arin, also, but i could be wrong about that, since i had heard it in one of their videos a while ago and wasn't super paying attention

That doesn't mean they were friends though. Danny was clearly just starting to get to know those guys around the time Jon left, which is why I say I don't think they were really friends, but it was such a small amount of time that we can't really say for sure that they wouldn't have bonded.

Honestly, I know they started some spin offs, but I unsubbed from game grumps, and dont follow anyone involed with it. They could hae quit years ago and I would have had no idea, Joe.

Danny is more chill and genuine but Jon was more entertaining to me.

I'm not sure if Danny and Jon could make episodes work together because Jon seems too crazy for Danny. Anytime Arin channels his old Arin & Jon personality, Danny is like, "Woah, you okay there buddy?"

There's been a bit of an older PotDer resurgence recently.
It's weird,

Danny and Arin have the same dynamic that me and a buddy I've known almost my whole life have. All I'd think of when I watched Game Grumps was that.

Really? I thought Arin was more mellow with Jon compared to with Dan, but you'd probably know better, you've seen way more episodes than me

I don't know if it's getting older or just YouTube channels getting crappier, but I find a lot of the stuff that was great a few years ago is dull as shit now. There are maybe up to 10 channels I still consider watching regularly. GG lost me some time last year. Channel Awesome is fun, and I like that Great War one too.

I think both Danny and Jon are/were fine, but Arin over time after Jon left, become the weak link in the Game Grumps duo in my opinion.

When Arin played a game, he would often ramble about nothing at all (rather than comment or joke about the game or anything related to it like they used to), while simultaneously not doing anything in the game (he might just walk in circles not going anywhere and not accomplishing anything). It's this behavior that eventually made me stop watching game Grumps.

They also got into the practice of looking at walkthroughs before even attempting to do anything in many of the games they were playing, rather than only after they ran into trouble.

I kind of agree with you, where Arin played the straight man to Jon's funny man, but I felt Arin would "go up" a notch to try to match Jon's humor and keep the bit going sometimes. Now he's the funny man in the duo (and yeah, he was really trying hard to be funny and carry the load during the first year or two with Dan) but it seems he has to go down to match Dan's vibe/humor because I don't think Dan has it in him to ham it up like most let's players do. He's always himself.

I dunno, that's just the way I see it. Also yeah, I still watch them almost every day even though I don't find them funny anymore, but I also don't know else to watch during those 10 minutes I'm eating.

Pretty much. The Arin/Jon thing was two internet funnymen trying to out-funnyman each other the whole time. Danny doesn't have that, so he ends up keeping it a little more real.

I haven't watched actively in probably a year so I dunno if this is still true, but at times it actually seemed like Dan would start to lose patience with Arin. I know they tend to read walkthroughs and such now but there were definitely still parts where he'd fall into his old patterns of, for example, not reading text and then running around trying to figure out what to do when the text explained it already.

Same here, but I've been in my 20s most of the time I've watched these channels, so I think it's a little bit of both, but more a matter of getting tired of them than becoming too mature for them.

I've started enjoying "serious" gaming channels a lot more lately than the comedic ones. I think that niche is so overdone at this point that it's not cool anymore.

The only episode I remember was someone (presumbably arin) being really bad at windwaker, and the other laughing about it.

Game Grumps are awful. My brother watches them a lot and I was at his place for a while when he had them on as background noise. I gotta say, they are just painful to listen to. They try too hard to be funny and end up just plain boring.
