Zen meditation is merely a method for being able to internally resolve conflict and when you have found said peace you stop and explore the world further until you need to think things through again.

Buddhism is very much about regulating everything with reason, recognising unproductive emotion and learning to let it go.

What is really unproductive is to throw yourself at a situation time and time again and letting your emotions take control and cause more problems than you solve. If you take the time needed to do the job correctly the first time, you needn't waste your time repeating yourself.
