"Housing Elevation: $434 million for buyout, elevation and reconstruction of 3,962 properties that flooded during Matthew and are at risk for future flooding"

Some of you guys are blinded. Look at that. They want to use tax payer dollars to buy damaged properly from landowners, destroy it, then rebuild it somewhere else. Many of the people who own these beach houses are wealthy. They knew the risks when they buy a beach house.

I have no sympathy for these well-off folks. Tax dollars shouldn't to to bailing them out of their poor decisions. Trump is completely right on this. It's socialism for the rich and it's a completely waste of federal tax dollars.

It's right there in Luke 3 (NIV, I think).
11 John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”

12 Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”

13 “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them.

14 Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.”

You seem to be interpreting it as "if your neighbor has no coat, and your other neighbor has seventeen coats, go ahead and redistribute those coats"

This is so stupid. Hurricane Matthew was 6 months ago. Why aren't they asking for insurance companies or the landowners to pay for it? Why should the federal government pay people to fix their homes.

Not sorry, but my tax dollars shouldn't be going to fixing/relocating someone's home that should be fixed by the homeowner and/or insurance company.

This is nothing than disgraceful government waste at its best.

How about... you keep your shit tax dollars and we can let anyone, with HALF A FUCKING BRAIN THAT BELIEVES IN EMERGENCY RELIEF, keep giving their taxes, AND YOU CAN STFU SO NOONE HAS TO HEAR YOUR LITTLE UNREALISTIC ELEMENTARY "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" OPINION NOT BASED ON ANY REALITY ANYWHERE WHATSOEVER EXCEPT IN LA-FUCKING-LAND FOX NEWS

Calm your t**s. This is not disaster relief anymore. It's pork. If you can't differentiate the 2, then you're going to make poor decision in life.

I can bet you that more than 75% of that requested money will go into enriching people instead of helping people. Why should tax dollars be spending on buying damaged property? Because your sensitive teets say so?

This isn't disaster relief. This is a bail out for upper class people.

Yeah that's bullshit

If it was a bailout for the upper class people, Trump would be all over that, plus some. Trump cares more about the upper class, than his own second son (whatever the fuck that guys name is... Aaron or some shit?)

The houses affected are not beach houses: they're not even on the coast:
https://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/12/09/us/princeville-north-carolina-hurricane-matthew-floods-black-history.html

Seventeen years ago, Ms. Cobb decided to rebuild, here in a town that has a special place in American history. Princeville, population 2,100, is believed to be the oldest town chartered by freed slaves, who founded a community that has survived numerous floods and the Jim Crow era. It remains 96 percent black.

Ms. Cobb, 69, is now considering a question looming over many homeowners: After two devastating floods, does she want the option to sell her home to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, something that the town’s leaders voted down in 1999, fearing it would lead to the end of their community?

“This is home, this is what I know,” said Ms. Cobb, who was leaning toward staying but worried about taking out a loan to rebuild. “I really don’t know.”

A number of residents have expressed an interest in selling to FEMA, which would prevent anyone from building again on their flood-prone land and lead to a reduction in the town’s tax base. The town’s four commissioners will vote at some point on whether to make that available to residents (the mayor votes in case of a tie). They can also consider elevation of homes and reconstruction of damaged ones.
...
Residents on the nation’s coasts and along inland waterways have assessed storm damage and wondered if they should relocate — a painful and fairly uncommon form of hazard mitigation known as retreat.

Here, the consideration has a wrenching historical dimension. This is where a freed slave, Turner Prince, established Freedom Hill in 1865, which became Princeville 20 years later, a town where extended families have proudly lived for generations. And many of them are determined to rebuild.

This stretch along the Tar River is no stranger to flooding, and some say that it is probably the reason that African-Americans were able to settle the land in the first place. White landowners in the 19th century did not want it.

“Their existence in this space was not a matter of chance or choice, but instead the discarded and unwanted space was what former slaveholders allowed them to occupy,” Richard M. Mizelle, Jr., an associate professor of history at the University of Houston, wrote earlier this year, tying Princeville’s location to environmental racism — the relegation of black people to flood-prone land and hazardous areas that expose them to greater levels of pollution.

But many people are proud of what they have built here, and how it has endured. “The freed slaves made it what it is,” said Mayor Bobbie Jones, 55, who wants the levee improved and opposes the buyouts and hopes residents who want to leave will first seek private buyers, perhaps like himself.

Almost every part of the country has a chance to fall victim to a natural disaster. Guess disaster relief shouldn't even be a thing because people should know better than to live in America, or Earth really, without being prepared to recover on their own. You chose to live here after all. Unnatural disasters could probably have the same excuses made for them too. If the world destroys your town, it is all your fault and you better figure it out or perish.
