I was shocked to see the percentage, I thought 1987 would make it very far.

I thought Link might hold Crono in check and make it about the other games. Metroid, Mega Man and Castlevania versus what 95 trotted out there? Should have been an easy call at that point.

it's the first zelda vs the only chrono trigger - 1987 is impressing most people today!

As much as I love Chrono Trigger (definitely top 5 game of all time) 1987 has a ton of great games, and Chrono is about all 1995 has.

1995 should be losing by a lot.

Earthbound is one of the best RPG's on the SNES and it came out the same year. Phantasy Star IV came out in 1995 also and it's also a damn good JRPG.

Chrono Trigger is one of the top 5 (popular) games on this site, and it's the mascot of 1995 in the contest. For anything, including a Zelda year, to be keeping it so close to CT is a statement about the strength of 1987, even if it's not actually winning.

It's because 1995 is closer to 1998 than 1987.

I wasn't alive enough to remember 1987, so why would I vote for it?

Most people on this site aren't old enough to remember 1987, even considering the average age of the site's users has gone way up (since the average date of birth has remained somewhat stable).

In the last age poll, only about 13% of the site would have been at least 35 or older (born in 1982 or earlier).

All 5 of the games listed are ones that people still play. The same cannot be said for many of the other filler games used for this contest.

I am in the group that actually owned a NES in 1987 and was able to experience LoZ and Metroid first hand. They are great games but I like the games in 1995 more, it also helps that the PS1 launched in 1995 so that is a pretty big deal.

/mourn 87.

You younguns don't know what you were missing. Back in my day, we had to walk uphill through the dungeons both ways, with no quick exits or autosaves! If we were lucky, maybe we had a password select.
