Of all the junk people have said before and after the election, and every single thing that people claimed would be the "end" for Trump... this Comey situation is going to be his downfall. The former FBI DIRECTOR is coming out telling people that our president is blatantly committing obstruction of justice.

It's only a matter of time before Trump is ousted and we have 3 years of Mike Pence.

He won't be impeached until after the 2018 elections, at the earliest. The Republicans simply have no political motivation to dump him. Much better for them to stick their heads in the sand and just pass anything and everything they can.
Even if Trump gets impeached, he won't get removed from office. The Dems are a minority in the Senate right now and will likely still be a minority until 2020 at least, and you need a supermajority to actually remove a president. Only as many Republicans as you can count on one hand would even consider voting to convict Trump.

If he got impeached I just figured Trump would just resign on his own from embarrassment.

They're not going to energize their base by impeaching a Republican president and exposing the malfeasance of a Republican administration(that Vice President Pence could be complicit in). At this point, it's increasingly likely that they're getting swamped in the mid-terms regardless of what they do.

He still has the backing of the rust belt voters who got him elected, they don't care about stripped down services and healthcare because they've been conditioned echo chamber special interest groups against the "evils of socialism". I thought it'd be nice if he was removed, sure. Never thought it would actually happen though. Figured he'd either opt not to run or the stress would do him in.

yeah, it's crazy to look back and see that Nixon had support that far along

although, Trump does ignite democrats in a way Pence wouldn't. maybe the republicans will count on that if they did think about impeachment (such as getting rid of Trump a little bit before the midterm elections, causing some people on the Left to not bother voting because they already "won")

For how normal Pence is, he also lacks Trump's low "charisma" to get the base fired up.

He'd be vulnerable to all the usual avenues of attack that all career politicians suffer, whereas most of Trump's crap bounces off him.

Even betting markets seem to be shaky on this. 1/4 from PredictIt that he isn't president by the end of 2017 and 1/2 that he isn't by the end of 2018.

I really don't know anymore. My expectation was that he served out a full term and gets soundly defeated in 2020 but this Comey shit really is a disaster for him.
