This one was saying that people don't need to pay property taxes because in 1787 Michigan was given up as "Public Domain", so it isn't legal for the government to tax property.
The paper included a definition from Webster's Dictionary and Insurance Laws (when he/she/the representative for the person) was talking about taxes, which... no.

I mean it's all technically correct, but... no... just no.

Goddamn I love this stuff though, it's fascinating.

It's a weird, eclectic movement with maybe a handful of good ideas and tons and tons of impractical or downright bizarre ones. Granted, referencing old, super-obscure laws can actually win some legal battles.

Yeah, I'm not actually against it, their heart is in the right place. Just not the whole, "sometimes being a menace to society" thing that shows up every once in a while.

My favorite video is and will forever be this one because it actually made some amount of sense:

Soverign Citizens are one of the most dangerous groups recognized by law enfocement. For every stupid hippyish kid you have the militant ones in a bunker some where ready to kill people every time they have to leave for supplies.

Seriously. Ask law enforcement. The biggest terrorist threat to the US is from white nationalists, which overlaps heavily with sovereign citizens.

Wat, it's just looking up old laws and applying to the wrong situation.

Nah. People like the Bundys (as a notable example) can be more or less considered examples of the militant branch of the sovereign citizens movement even if they don't self identify as such.

It's people who refuse to respect the law of the land. They may attempt to find "clever" ways to justify themselves but it's not the main point. It's funny when it's some stupid kids, it's not so funny when you have a bunch of heavily armed lunatics ready to fight the government and law enforcement.
