Most of us who come to this site likely grew up playing it, played with kids at school and even got suckered into buying the cards and playing/trading them too. It was a huge deal back then and people have a lot of fond memories of it even though the series continued to improve the game mechanics and whatnot. I did play some of the gens that followed, and there were certainly some great quality of life improvements, but I just couldn't get into them past a certain point.
