Sadmiral had a good post going in the OP, then decided he was gonna bitch about liberals and fucked it all up.

As much as I don't like or trust cops, by and large *because* of their "shoot first, ask questions never" mentality, I trust everyday civilians even less because they *will* take an inch and make a mile out of it.

Think I'm going to file this change as "pending" instead of immediately calling it an improvement, because something like this could easily flip the other way (rise in cop deaths because they can't/won't defend themselves).

Nice. I've never seen police NOT escalate a situation when they're called. Usually they just make things worse with their alpha male power tripping manchild garbage.

Removing tension from a situation instead of having the threat of escalation as a MO would likely lead to less deaths on both sides, but you're right about the potential. Less deaths on the cops' side would have a lag time because of that element, but over time, with trust being built and better relations with cops becomes a pattern, anti-police people would definitely start having their faith renewed and restored with police in this country. It should be no mystery that, thinking that a cop is just on the edge of looking for a reason to escalate a situation, could and does result in being wary or distrusting of police.

I support this motion a lot. But at the same time I'm worried civilians are going to take advantage of these situations. Where I work at people take miles, when I try to negotiate them from doing something stupid. And if force is necessary people still think it's too excessive even if no punches or chokes aren't used.

The issues will go down significantly. If people aren't afraid of the cops shooting them, they won't be afraid of talking to the cops. The "no snitching" mentality will slowly disappear, hatred against cops will go down, and everything will become happy and peaceful.

I'm wondering how these tactics would be played out when the criminal is carrying a gun and not a knife....you are able to take those chances with a knife because as long as you keep distance then he can't really get you, short of throwing it and then losing his weapon.

They wouldn't need to carry guns if they knew cops wouldn't be carrying guns. Average traffic stops will no longer be life or death and they won't feel the need to defend themselves

Standard police training is a joke so it's good to see they're finally starting to receive competent instruction.

That has nothing to do with the crime the cities though. People don't snitch not because of the cops, it's because of those people finding out and killing them. That point made no sense at all. People are going to hate cops regardless.
