Which would you rather go to?

For clarity, let's say "bottom of the ocean" is like something James Cameron would do. I know there are already submarine tours that are relatively cheap and can take you down in a shallow part of the ocean (relatively-speaking), but I'm not counting those since they aren't on equal footing with going to space in terms of being something the average person isn't going to get a chance to do.

I've always wanted to go to space, but I admit maybe part of the appeal is just that so few people get to do it. I was thinking earlier today about how it would be cool to go deep in the ocean, and that's another thing few people get to do. It's tough. If I was going to another planet or the moon or even the space station, I think space would win no contest, but otherwise the sights might not be that cool. You can see those sights in pictures and videos, and you can experience weightlessness in other ways. I imagine the deep sea experience is more of something where you need to be there, and it's fascinating thinking of all that unexplored stuff that's part of our own planet.

Well, space is winning in a landslide so far. Even I voted for space in the end, so I can't complain, but I thought it might be more interesting. The bottom of the ocean is the type of expedition I'd say comes closest in magnitude to going to space - can anybody come up with something better?

If it was truly the bottom of the ocean, and in this hypothetical scenario water pressure isn't a problem, and I have some means to see the creatures, I'd choose that.
There are so many amazing creatures in the ocean that we have never even seen before.
There aren't a lot of creatures I could see in space.

I voted space but I can easily see why bottom of the ocean could also be a pretty cool experience.

if in this choice I had some magical power to not die from pressure and actually could see down there I'd love to see the bottom of the ocean. Space is cool and all but I imagine it'd be pretty barren out there.

While I know that both are dangerous, somehow I feel safer going with the water option (or, at least, I guess it depends on how deep it can safely go). In general, the ocean floor might be more interesting since you'll still see life, etc, in the depths.

Easily space, though the ocean bottom would also be neat.

Space. I agree that the bottom of the ocean is interesting, but my fear of drowning automatically makes space the ideal choice.

How far in space can we go? If it's just low-Earth orbit or something, the ocean would be great. If we can magically survive the trip to the deepest depths of the ocean, we're bound to find undiscovered life, and that's pretty cool.

I don't see how they are different. They both contain very different forms of life.

Space (excluding the Earth) isn't known to contain life and, the distance you'd get, you'd be even more unlikely to find any. After all, astronauts would have found it already if it was that close. The bottom of the sea we know contains life. Pretty big difference.

Oh, you don't need to worry about that. If your sub malfunctioned you'd probably be killed by pressure or something long before you risk drowning.

Yeah, I was gonna say this. The same will also happen in space before you drown... well, not drown, but run out of air.

I mean, we don't even know all the creatures that live in the oceans yet here you are, claiming there's not a lot of creatures in space.

Not any that you'd ever be likely to find even if they do exist. Space is incomprehensibly large and incomprehensibly devoid of matter.

Uh huh...note I never said anything about finding them, just that we don't know if they are or are not creatures living in space. But I did take their quote a bit out of context since they did say that they'd see.
