I love the twisted sense of morality that gives "ordinary, decent" felons convicted of violent crimes a perverse glow of self-righteousness when it comes to child molesters. "Sure, I might have robbed kids of their father by murdering him or beating him so badly he's a vegetable on life support, or raped their mother and disfigured her with a knife, but there's no way I'd ever do anything that would psychologically damage a young kid!" Because, you know, that kind of thing would barely put a dent in your childhood.

Or, rather less sarcastically: don't treat scum like that as some kind of vigilante anti-hero just because they like to work out their aggression on prison pariahs like child molesters. There are plenty of violent crims who are even worse than offenders like Garay. Just because the innocent people they've murdered, or crippled, or mentally scarred for life aren't children, it doesn't mean we should see them as noble instruments of Old Testament justice instead of the hypocrisy-stinking bags of subhuman shit that they are.

people always say we should "do it the old fashioned way" until it's someone they agree with or a friend of theirs. Then it's "the process isn't fair it needs work, let him have his trial before locking him up" etc..

People react this way for a hell of a lot of crimes. Woman falsely accused man of rape to send him to prison? Posters say she should get double whatever time he got/would get. Man disfigures woman with acid? People say he should suffer the same fate. It isn't weird, and certainly not unique to this subject. The very idea of eye for an eye is as old as our civilization. The stream of 'fair; next' that is posted when someone gets their injured or killed after harming or even attempting to harm someone else should emphasize that this reaction isn't unique to child abusers.

As I stated, it is not at all unique to rape, which is what you're suggesting. And it's a well known fact that rapes and beatings occur in prison. And that being a rapist or child molester increases those odds. But it is happening regardless. And people want an eye for an eye.

I don't agree that it should happen. But it's not weird. It's natural. You don't have to agree with it. But to not understand it is to not understand human nature.
