A local community college have these certs:

Cloud Computing
Cyber Security
Database Specialist
Geographic Information Systems
Network Administration
Network Infrastructure Specialist
Programmer Trainee
Server Infrastructure Administrator - Windows 2012
Virtualization
Web Development Specialist

Programmer Trainee seems interesting, given its mainly mobile apps development and game development. I've time learning python on my own, but I'm terrible at self teaching, and dropped it out of lack of motivation, given the whole reason for leaning it was for game development. Maybe a class with grades and a teacher and such would help me given my self teaching skills are horrendous, and it'll give me something Inmediate to work for.

I'm also looking for something that in demand for employment, considering I need employment beyond a minimum wage part time job within a year or 2, at least a income of 30,000 grand a year to be able to live on my own.

I'm also officially certified in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint in 2012, so I could should be able to learn a field that use those somewhat easier than programming that I have no experience in besides a code academy course and a book on python that I've finished halfway before dropping out of boredom.

From personal experience, focus on getting your CompTIA A+ certification.

Then, from there, decide if you want to go for CCNA, CISSP, or MCSE.

I also agree. A+ is pretty easy. Hell, go for Net+ as well.

Don't. None of the above. IT is awful, do something else.

By all means, explain to us how "IT is awful", @Syntheticon.

Different strokes for different blokes. Personally, I can get pretty giddy when I fix computers.

Well, dealing with ppl that have a snide and arrogant tone from the jump is a big drawback.

That only happens if you work for the geek squad or something.

If you work a helpdesk somewhere, they're your coworkers.

That's an entirely different issue. Fixing things is great and I've always enjoyed it, but IT is only part fixing these days. Things have moved towards telephony and cloud integration more than ever which is always an added complication and drain on resources, not to mention that about 30-50% of the time you need to devote to real problems is always spent fire fighting and in user education (as they're always the biggest weakness in any system).

As Douglas Adams so aptly put it, "a common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools".

It isn't, but if you're having a good time then you're probably new or have the luxury of being sufficiently/overstaffed. Either way, enjoy it while it lasts.

Cloud Computing
Cyber Security
Database Specialist
Geographic Information Systems
Network Administration
Network Infrastructure Specialist
Programmer Trainee
Server Infrastructure Administrator - Windows 2012
Virtualization
Web Development Specialist

Out of that list, Cloud Computing probably has the most opportunity for growth in the long run. Large corporations are huge on moving their stuff into the cloud, and they have a LOT of stuff to move.

Cyber Security would be second, and all the others are pretty much out of date already. Databases are moving towards a no-sql solution, basic programming jobs are moving to India because it is cheaper to do them there, Virtualization is dead due to the decreased cost of hardware (and cloud computing), and Web Development is being replaced by tools that give you full websites right out of the box with minimal setup.

Also don't get into mobile development, there really is no money in it unless you are really lucky or get a large contract from a bigger company.

Also, not sure what the iphone bit was about, I have an iphone for personal and an xperia for work so I can keep current on both OS's but if you were shooting for the 'Mac user steroeotype' or something then sorry but I'm pretty platform agnostic-I can't see how anyone can get too attached since you end up bouncing between so many types of systems these days and they all have their pros and cons. I'm happiest in win but like most ppl that's just what I tend to use most.

Also, IT is a dying job market.

My company used to have a staff of 20 IT people on-site. Now we have a help desk in India and one person who has to deal with the on-site problems of a 1000 person office. I don't envy her one bit...

Yeah but to be honest if TC is entry level, none of those will do a lot of good. Like, nobody is going to hire an IT Security Specialist because they have a cert. Those guys usually have to have years of background in networking and server infrastructure before they can become an expert in security. You gotta understand the fundamentals before you can really secure a system.

Ha, no that's just users in general.
True, most geeks have a chip on their shoulder and I'm sure I'm not much different, but I think it comes out of being exposed to a large group of ppl that are either surprisingly uneducated in even the basics, or dealing with the extra special the ones that wear their ignorance like a badge of honour and the somewhat horrifying attitude that a lack of PC knowledge is cool or to something to be aspired to.
