You don't need to televise that you're a whore, or that you're a deadbeat. DNA testing a child to see if the man is the father should be done privately. These cost less than $80, geez.

They can either spend $80 for a paternity test or make a couple hundred to be on TV.

Hmmmmm

You do know that shit is staged right? Those people aren't couples nor are those kids there. It's all actors and randoms looking for a payday and Maury keeps doing the segment because his audience loves it, fun fact, back at the very beginning when they did it the reactions were more subdued, then one actor decided to go ham and dance and because of them, Maury decided to let the actors have fun with it by being hammy and over dramatic and this shit was born. Just like Jerry Springer at first didn't have audience outbursts and people fighting. It's all fake.

Well that's half true

They do hire actors once in a while but its mostly real people. Though they are usually given scripts and encouraged to have over the top reactions. There weren't many fights before but then when you had fights the ratings jumped through the roof, so they thought hey, why not try to have fights every time?

I remember one two part episode where a woman had fifteen men tested...and none of them was the father.

There was no father. I carried him, I gave birth, I raised him, I can't explain what happened.

Reminds me of what that one security guard for Jerry Springer said, "If you get a call offering you to be on a talk show, just say no."

It probably is easier and cheaper to get people to really do this vs. hiring actors and writing a script.
