Late 1990's F150. Had some work done on the locks and ignition so the keys were replaced. Slipped out of the bundle of paperwork as my old key still works in the ignition. I can literally see the new key on the seat and unfortunately the windows are rolled-up.

Tow truck's on the way, though.

I think I've done that before, but more often I've *thought* I locked my keys in the car only to realize that I had another door unlocked still. Since I have more than one set of keys, I would probably just have somebody grab the spare then drive down.

I have 2 sets of keys when I'm working (my car has a keypad so I can't lock myself out). 1 set is for my personal car and the other for my work truck. I keep a spare for the truck on my personal set which never leaves my pocket while I'm at work. I've had to use it more than once.

on a truck that old, you can take a wire hangar and slip it in between the door jamb.

however, unless you have power locks, not sure how much of a help that'd be.

Yeah, unfortunately, I didn't notice until after I locked the doors that OH SHIT my key is still inside. MF!

This is why it pays to read the OP. New keys. Currently only used when unlocking doors.

Nice. That must make things confusing sometimes.

Nope, all manual. Manual locks, manual windows, etc.

Unfortunately I don't have any wire hangers. All plastic.

Would make it easier for somebody to pickpocket your keys.

Would make it easier for somebody to pickpocket your keys.

Not to mention that unless your key is flat and not electronic, your wallet or purse or whatever will have a sizeable bulge to it, that will get bothersome when driving.

But if you have one of those electronic fobs you are likely to have remote entry and not lock yourself out anyway

I know with newer Toyotas with remote start systems, the car will unlock itself unless someone is sitting in the drivers seat.

My car won't let itself lock with the fob in the car when someone isn't in the drivers seat. I'm not entirely sure how it works to be honest, but I've left my fob in there and tried to lock it, but it just beeped at me weirdly.

did you leave it in the ignition, or just sitting there?

my car will lock itself whether regardless of where the fob is

Just sitting there. Flopped out onto the seat.

It's even worse when you lock the keys of your patrol vehicle in the car and you have to call your supervisor to come out to your account to let you in. :(

That would be much worse but I never had to deal with that.

It's a push start. And one of those deals where it unlocks the car for me instead of having to push the button. It's bougie af.

I used to do that quite a bit. Now that I have a car with electronic locks it never happens anymore.

Half tempted to cancel my AAA membership, haven't called a tow trunk in something like 4 years.

Ive locked myself out of my car quite a few times. The most notable being in the middle of an intersection and the second being naked in front of my crushes house. In the first one the guy behind me had a balloon opener, in the second one I had to ask her to drive me home to get my spare.

man that sounds super sketchy

I'll stick to physically putting a key in an ignition and turning it
