It started to lose its charm when Vegeta got it, then they threw it at Gohan, too... and it was still kinda neat, but less so. And then they gave it to Goten and Kid Trunks and it was just... gone. That magic... just gone. I've always kind of wished Goku, Trunks and Future Gohan had been the only Super Saiyans. I guess you could argue that the transformation is just fundamentally different for this other universe. They didn't have tails and are smaller since they evolved differently over the years as a civilized race, much differently to universe 7 Saiyans.
