Overrated

I think Fire Emblem and Shinning Force are way better (and the fact that they have more entries kind of proves that). I am not even the biggest Tactics Ogre fan but I still think it is better.

And that is just the Japanese ones, if we include Western ones like the X-COM series, Age of Wonders, Fallout Tactics, and Heroes of Might & Magic there is no contest.

Really loved FFT, one of the best games ever made.

Heard about all the dumb shit they were doing w/ FFT Advance and wasn't interested at all, plus I never got a GBA.

Picked up FFT A2 for DS because I heard they removed a lot of the stupid arbitrary random stipulation stuff that could screw you over (or at least let you win the battle w/o adhering to it for some penalty, I forget) and within the first hour I put it down. It was just...what? Not fun or interesting at all. Still have yet to try it again, 3 years later. I should...I paid for it...

The original Tactics is in a three-way-tie to be my favorite game ever. It's completely and wholly incredible in every way. Tactics Ogre is also fantastic. It's story is marginally better than FFTactics', but its job system isn't quite as engaging.

Tactics Advance is forgettable. Judges were a pain in the ass.

Tactics A2 has an equally crappy story, but its gameplay is good fun. I like the return to FF9's way of learning abilities and spells.

Overall, FFTactics is THE SRPG to live up to in my book. Stuff like Fire Emblem can't even come close.

Devil survivor (1 and 2) is better than them all

I've only played FFT. It's one of the hardest games I've ever played. I played it when I was in grade school and then again when I was an adult and I found it just as difficult the second time around. The thing that kills me is that you're basically fucked if you aren't prepared for a battle. You can barely go back and grind to build up your party, and if you're party member dies, you can never get them back.

I love the style and themes and music and hats tees, but as far as gameplay it's one of my least favorite final fantasy games

FFT is tied for my favorite game of all time

FFTA had three things wrong with it: It seemed too childish, the judge system was more annoying than fun, and some of the classes/abilities were overpowered which made others obsolete.

Never played FFTA2

I think maybe I'll play tactics advance and give it another chance... but eh, I'll probably dislike it again

I've played FFT:WotL twice and I still only kinda get the story. The way they talk just takes too much effort to decipher and I just give up trying to comprehend.
Still, I played it twice. It's a really fun tactics game. Not sure about "greatest of all time" like I'm seeing some people say.

I've beaten FFTA probably like 5 times total. It was one of my favorite games as a kid. Replayed it again recently and it mostly held up. Some combos are hilariously unbalanced, and it could really stand to have a difficulty slider, but I love it.

FFTA2 was mediocre. I don't really even remember much about it.

It's really not THAT hard once you understand kinda the basic principles. Like knowing that random battles will level based upon Ramza. Faith and Brave are actually important and important to roll for early. Stuff like that.

When I was a kid and first played the game, I would ALWAYS get fucked eventually. But now that I understand how it works, it's much easier.

You're not the only one. I've argued many a times that the original translation was done best - grammatical errors, typos, and more included. WotL really only becomes understandable if you already know the gist of the story from playing the original. That Shakespearean English was really overdone; something that was handled much better in FFXII.

I prefer the advance games over the original o.o

I'm surprised at all the hate FFTA is getting. As a thematic successor to FFT it's a jarring switch but its a solid early 2000s portable SRPG. I definitely got a lot of hours of fun out of it.
