Pork sounds disgusting, even from the perspective of taste. But yeah, american food is bland nonetheless.

Except it's not and you're completely wrong. So shut the fuck up.

So the terrible mods here don't see this as flaming? Lol typical liberal hypocrisy.

Your food sucks, deal with it.

Says the person who won't touch pork, not even with a fork. And if your food is so bad that you have to cover up the taste with spicy concoctions and ONLY spicy concoctions (where most other cultures use sweet, sour, etc) then your food sucks.

Especially in this day and age where there's such easy access to so many spices-- most american foods are just terribly bland or not very tasty, unless they're grossly unhealthy (fried, full of unhealthy fats, etc.)

Food should be healthy period.

If it happens to be tasty or bland or whatever is irrelevant.

Not a fan of spice or spicy food. Also, food doesn't need spice to taste good and btw spice have a lot of salt so how is that healthy?

Everyone thinks their ethnic food growing up is so f****ing delicious that they've deceived entire generations to seek out "authentic cuisine." And then you eat it and it tastes like s*** and you realize their family only made that slop because they were poor growing up and they couldn't get their hands on real food.

90% of all ethnic food is what would be considered peasant food. Basic scraps placed together to make a meal.

But European ethnic food tends to be the worst outside of Mediterranean food. Just pickled herring, and boiled cabbage stuff.

Lol what a lame excuse. Plenty of cultures have "fresh" food that are decorated with spices, because no one likes to eat bland food like US cuisine.

FellWolf posted...
I know it's a troll but "American food" covers such a crazy spectrum of food.

Yes, yes, you liberals have been crying troll for the longest time yet still engage in discussions with me. The spectrum isn't particularly large, and for the most part includes bland or flat out unhealthy food.

MacrossSpecial posted...
I'm sure it has already been said, but tons of spices = sodium, sodium = grossly unhealthy.

Lol what kind of garbage logic is this? You don't need to add lots of salt with your spices.

You seem fixated on just "spices." Lots of cultures include sweetness, sourness, and bitterness much better than American cuisine does. For example, Thai cuisine is immeasurably better than US cuisine because there are multiple flavors at play in most of their dishes. And yeah, I won't touch a filthy animal like a swine, not even with a fork. If the rest of your cuisine is any indication, it's nothing special anyways.

@JanwayDaahl I agree American food tends to be bland and I'm American. I love spicy foods, but so many people around here are pussies that I have a damn hard time getting my fix. But I don't think it's so much a problem with the food so much as it is a problem with the people eating it.

I'd love for the TC to list good, healthy, tasty food that's full of flavour that Americans don't have. Out of curiosity of course.

My parents hate anything that's not a typical "meat + vegetable + starch" dinner.

Only food I eat is what is spit out of the work cafeteria, which is on par with hospital food.

Clearly somebody's never been inside a chicken coop. Pigs are no filthier than any other livestock, that was just the easiest wording to use in writing down kosher/halal laws to convince people not to eat something that carried serious and then-incomprehensible health concerns. Now that we have meat inspection and meat thermometers and pans/burners that can cook meat effectively, the likelihood of contracting trichinosis or pork tapeworms (which are really, really bad infestations to get, even today) has been virtually eliminated, so those rules don't really matter as much in today's world.

Today, yes, but that's not where the cuisine came from. In hotter climates, it was much harder to preserve meat, so it became common practice to heavily season it to mask the taste of it having gone bad. That practice persisted past the invention and proliferation of refrigeration, simply because those were the flavours people were used to, and now the same seasoning is applied to fresh meat and has been refined for that. Cuisines developed in colder climates (i.e. the European countries that comprised most of America's initial colonization) tend to be less heavy on the seasoning, plus a lot of America's history has been since the invention of domestic fridges in the early 1900's.

Spices are just a way that was used to cover up rotting, spoiled food by making them taste better. Now that we have proper refrigeration it is not needed anymore.

Traditional spices weren't used to cover up rotting food. They actually slow the rotting process.
