He's one of the best fantasy authors of this generation, good enough to take over for Robert Jordan.

With him and Brent Weeks both putting out quality material, there's no reason not to read them. Though Sanderson is much more prolific.

You USED TO BE correct. It was initially planned to be Szeth, but Brandon changed it and the main PoV for this one is Dalinar.

IIRC, there's gonna be 2 more Mistborn trilogies. Alloy of Law was supposed to be a one-shot novella bridging 2 different trilogies, but it was so popular that he continued it into a whole other trilogy.

Dunno about standalone stuff, but I would be very surprised if he didn't have more coming up.

That sounds bitchin, wow. I'd love to see how pushing/pulling will work in regards to modern firearms and how he'll handle stuff like thermal imaging.

I don't think he's said anything but I'm sure he'll write more standalones for Mistborn. He tends to surprise us with novellas really often. As for series, there are two more after the current one. A modern era one and then a science-fiction era one that will be the finale of the Cosmere story. Really excited for The Lost Metal next year.

I think he's writing the fourth Wax and Wayne book next. Then he plans to do the modern (1980ish actually I think) trilogy between Stormlight Archives book 5 and 6. I think he has an Elantris sequel planned between Stormlight Archive 4 and 5.

Glad this is coming out soon. Seems like I won't get another Dresden Files book for a while.

Sanderson is my favorite author right now. I've read all of his shit.

I'm super hyped for this book. The only thing that might (might) top this would be a release date announcement for Doors of Stone by Rothfuss, and that's only because it's the final book in that series.

It's an odd series. I love the world building and how detailed everything is, especially the school setting, but the main protagonist...man, what a chump. And yes, I know, unreliable narrator and all that, but I'm still the one that's reading all about it. :P

Yeah, I'm taking off for sure. I normally wake up at like 7 AM and start reading until I'm done. I wish I read slower or had enough discipline to space it out, but I don't. It's annoying waiting years for a book to come out only to read it in like 5-7 hours -_-

Do it! Stormlight is shaping up to be my favorite series of all time. His Mistborn series is slanted a bit towards a younger audience, but I still loved it. Hell, I've even read his full on YA books and enjoyed them (I need Rithmatist book 2 almost as badly as I needed Stormlight 3).

Sanderson is the hardest working fantasy author. The guy works CONSTANTLY, even when he's on the road promoting books or going to conventions. He's also the most transparent author out there. He has up to the minute updates on his projects on his website. You know what draft he's working on, what percentage of the way through that draft he is, what book is coming up next etc.

The 2nd book spends too much time at Ademre and in the Fae with Felurian, for sure. The Denna drama is also a bit tiring.

Despite those criticisms I still love the book.

I get where you're coming from with that, there are a few bits in book 2 that I was really tired of. And I 300% agree with you that his love interest, Denna, is insanely shitty and I hope she's killed off.

The books are massive, and for sanity sake he's writing other books in between Stormlight entries. He's already said that Stormlight 4 was supposed to come out late 2018 or early 19, but he's probably pushing it back to 2020.
