I like it. It doesn't strictly follow the tried-and-true Fire Emblem formula, but doesn't deviate so far that it's unrecognizable. In that regard it's kinda like Pokemon Sun/Moon for that franchise.

It's pretty hard for a surprisingly faithful remake to be like a game that went in a fairly new direction <_<

It's more like Zelda II: Adventure of Link than Pokemon SuMo.

...In fact, Gaiden could be called Zelda II's sister game.

I think it's kind of bad, probably my least-favorite Fire Emblem. The mechanics and the map design are really archaic and that turns it into a drag. It's too easy even on the highest difficulty, to the point of being mind-numbing early on.

It is a lot better than any recent Fire Emblem game narratively though, for what little that's worth.

It has a really good story but the gameplay is pretty ass.

It's a almost 100% faithful remake to the original gaiden gameplay wise and thus plays like an NES game with all that entails.
