I loved it. Playing through all the DLC now and it's great fun. People were way too harsh on the game. It had its flaws but it made a ton of improvements to the series. My only real complaints were the railroading and the lackluster ending. Literally, everything else was fun.

I just toggle god mode for every new settlement and load it up with laser turrets. That way when the settlement is in trouble i can just fast travel there and wait 15 seconds for them to get lit the fuck up.

A less obtuse perk system
Doing away with the stupid percentages
More memorable and interesting companions, and more obvious ways of recruiting them
Better designed creatures
Taking away things like being able to throw explosives in VATs
Making VATs not pause time
Making weapon perks based on how the weapon is used and not the type of ammo it takes

Even if you debate some of these, there is enough here to say that they made a lot of improvements, even if the story was lacking and the railroading sucked.

Yeah, it's so much more fun having to stop playing after every level up to look up the exact percentages you need for the perks you want because half the time they are invisible until you can get them. >_>

Bethesda didn't even make New Vegas

But yes, it is bad. The dated technology shows every time they try to do heights. Shooting is better but that doesn't stop the bullet-hoarding and damage sponge nature of the combat. The voiced protagonist and "Yes, Yes, Yes, or Yes" dialog wheel is such a monumentally dumb decision. And the first group you're introduced to is a radiant quest machine. They try to lean on settlements so that they can just make big open areas with a couple assets, but just because the player builds shit doesn't mean the nameless AI will interact with anything in a meaningful or interesting way. The writing and quests is by no means a shining example within the genre, and with the lack of role-playing and other issues, you're better off playing almost ANYTHING else, because Fallout 4 has nothing to offer. There's more substance and enjoyment in half of a New Vegas playthrough.

Weapon and Armor Customization is entirely pointless when there's really only one mod for each that completely destroys all other mods and there's no benefit to choosing the weaker one over the stronger one. It's a completely superfluous and superficial mechanic.

Settlements were stupid. They only exists for two reasons. 1 - Cheese the barter system so you could buy anything you wanted in the game for free. 2 - Unlock the "raise happiness to 100% in a settlement" achievement (another completely meaningless system where the best strategy is to keep no more than three people in the settlement and drop flamingoes and creepy paintings everywhere and then let the game run). They couldn't program basic stuff like walls snapping together (something Minecraft did back in like 2009) properly. And why does all the crap look old and blown up already? Why can't I build something that looks nice and new and make a real utopia for my people?

The Perk system in Fallout 4 only served to further destroy any semblance of role-playing in the series. Now you can just max out your SPECIAL and unlock basically whatever you want! Why not?

I don't know what you mean by "getting rid of the percentages".

The companions are boring and two dimensional.

"Better designed creatures"... You mean... Literally the same things from previous Fallout games, except with less diversity? 80% of the crap you encounter are raiders, super mutants and ghouls (that lie around on the ground and "trick you" like they're dead but omg they're really alive and getting up to kill you! [unless you ... figure it out after the second time it happens and just shoot them before they have a chance to do anything]). This is the exact same thing they did to the things in Skyrim. Before Skyrim, you had all sorts of fun ghosts and spooky things and they had specific weaknesses you had to exploit, or die. With Skyrim and Fallout 4... there's a total of maybe six enemies and it's all just about shooting them/hitting them until they go down.

And I don't see how not being able to throw weapons in VATS is a good thing... again, that's just removing something that's classic Fallout. So.

I don't know man, like the only thing I agree with you on is that the Power Armor mechanics are more interesting. That's basically about it.

THANK YOU DOE for recognizing the stupid blood bugs and bloat flies in Fallout 4.

Besides eating mini nukes from enemies a mile away who snapped on to my location after firing a silenced sniper rifle, I only died from the flying bugs. Literally that's it. Deathclaws usually just got stuck on the scenery or had some easy-to-exploit location to take them out from.

It's the same crap they pulled in Skyrim. Dragons are nothing compared to crap like bears and trolls.
