Trump wasn't implicated for obstruction of justice so I suspect you all may have stopped crying by now but wouldn't be surprised if you're still on the bathroom floor in the fetal position.

I'd like to think they would focus on the metric shit ton of Trump's terrible policies as a mechanism to help them win in 2020. It's not like you need to make shit up to make trump look like a shitty President. Dying on the impeachment hill would be silly. A majority of Americans dislike Trump and it shouldn't be hard for the left to capitalize in an honest way.

Literally any Democratic nominee other than Hillary would have beaten Trump. But they still lost because the left is so idiotic that they thought identity politics would win them an election.

Look at Trump's twitter. He could post "Hello hope you have a good day" and it would spawn a cascade of salty posts from the same person over and over whining.

I don't know, I thought James Comey's testimony was pretty damning for Donald Trump... Moreover, you aren't actually interested in debating the faults and merits of James Comey's testimony in an intellectually-honest way, you're only interested in provoking the other "team" for your own enjoyment, and in spreading the narrative for your "team" that Donald Trump got way scott free. I won't take the bait by sticking around and talking to you, and I urge others not to either. What you're doing here isn't healthy, not for yourself nor for our country, and for the sake of your soul, I urge you to find another hobby.

However, I'll say this much... I think people who make the argument you're making (and I've seen others here and elsewhere do it) are missing a fairly obvious point. For Republicans, *nothing* will be enough for them to turn on their own president, short of a bright red line being crossed... and even then, I have my doubts. If a taped conversation between Donald Trump and Carter Page came out tomorrow that blatantly incriminates him, wherein the president talked openly of collusion with Russia, I'm quite certain over half of all Trump's supporters would make excuses for him and say, "He was only joking. This isn't anything important."

But again, this misses the point. The point is, whether James Comey's testimony to Trump's actions meets any *legal* standard for obstruction of justice doesn't make any difference... (Which isn't to say it doesn't; it's just an irrelevant point.) The important questions are:

1. What do the *American people* think of James Comey's testimony to Donald Trump's actions?
2. Do *they* think it was an abuse of power?
3. How much does this stall the Republican agenda?
4. What environment does that create for the 2018 midterms, and for 2020?
5. Will Democrats take back the House?
6. Will Democrats take back the Senate?

These are the questions you *don't* want people to think about, because any path to impeachment probably begins with the GOP losing power in one or both houses of congress. It's important to understand impeachment is a *political* process, not a legal proceeding... Therefore, what's going on in the court of public opinion is arguably more important than what would pass a court of law. Which isn't to say I necessarily think Donald Trump is innocent of criminal wrongdoing; making veiled threats on the FBI director's job, demanding his loyalty, asking him to let investigations go, and firing him citing bogus reasons when he doesn't comply is quite obviously obstruction of justice and abuse of power, no matter how much Trump's diehards will try to spin it. (On a tangent, it's quite amusing to me how many people are willing to assume horrible things about the Clintons down to homicides and pedophile vacations, but won't infer the first bad thing about a Republican).

Walk with God.

one would think this would be a time for a Republican to self reflect and think about the lack of any intellectual substance that they and their party represent and offer to this country, but no, they elect reality t.v. stars and still praise it as some sort of victory rather than recognize the utter embarrassment this means to U.S. democracy

It doesn't make Trump look great. However, it certainly destroys the collusion narrative.

Comey himself said that Trump is not and has never been under investigation. And Comey said that Trump said for Comey to go after anyone that might be involved in collusion.

A completely serious question; what more would you possibly need to prove that Trump wasn't involved with collusion?

Couple things:

1) Over the pissing tapes. That's what they were talking about.

2) when asked if there was cause to investigate now, he said he'd save it for the classified portion of the question.

3) "Hasn't been investigated" isn't the same as "has been investigated and cleared."

I don't see how people consider needing to get outside council because you might have criminal charges brought against you is "good for you", regardless of whether you are innocent or not.

Or that having a congressional hearing where the person you fired says under oath that he believes it was an attempt to stop the investigation is "good for you".

Sure, you could try to make the argument that it turned out better for Trump than expected if you wanted to try to present that. But good?

Lol. I'm not a Trump supporter. I hope he does get impeached tbh. But the difference in me and you is I'm not so overwhelmingly biased that I can watch a hearing where the entire hope of the left for the past several weeks has hinged on Comey implicating Trump on obstruction of justice at that hearing and him not doing so is soul crushing for all the people who thought that was gonna happen.

The hope of the uninformed voter was hinging on that, sure. The real important thing that happened Thursday was the closed hearing. Even senators were saying he took it to the next level.

What Comey DIDN'T say during his open hearing and what he COULDN'T say publicly were far more important than what he actually could and did say.

They learned of yet another clandestine off the books meeting between Sessions and the Russians. Also, there was plenty of stuff Comey outright denied or assented to, yet a whole bunch of stuff he couldn't. I'm sure those answers were very telling one way or the other.

Yeah, the liberals here are on an asinine witch hunt. There is no evidence to support their conspiracy, and evidence against the conspiracy is just simply denied.

Whatever. Independents are who decide elections. Flat denial of tangible facts won't do anything but dismiss credibility on the left. The liberals aren't persuading anyone that matters.
