Do you think juveniles who committed horrific crimes should be publicly identified?

10 y/o Kiaya Campbell's was found murdered after she went missing 3 days ago in Colorado.and a 15 y/o Boy whose mother is dating her father is the SUSPECT!!

The 15 y/o cannot be identified because he is a minor and was arrested by Police on Saturday night as he's been booked and transported to Adams County Juvenile Detention Facility..

Kiaya's father said his daughter left him with his girlfriend's 15 y/o son to walk to a nearby shopping centre..but the boy said that he lost Kiaya after they got separated by a "rainstorm"..

Her body was later found a mile from their home as neighbors said they do remember a rainstorm that night..and the coroner stated that the cause of death was "other than accidental"

Kiaya was an avid Youtuber who posted videos on her account and racked up thousands of views as she talked about life, singing and makeup..

Kiaya was described as a happy, loving young girl and her mother, Chantal Campbell posted a GoFundMe account to raise money for a memorial and wrote "This beautiful soul was stolen from us. We appreciate everything everyone has done in this situation. Now we just appreciate anything anyone can do to help out her to rest"

It has already raised 11,750 of the 10,000 goal set.

Do you think juveniles who commit horrific crimes should be identified to the public?.

idk, when I see "Youtuber" in a headline, I kinda expect a much bigger account.

Maybe a case-by-case basis but generally no, that defeats the whole point of having a minor/major system.

They should be named and shamed yes. Although being a 10 year old youtuber this was probably inevitable.

I imagine he's probably going to do the same as most people.

Probably an argument that led to a physical altercation ending in an accidental death. It's almost certainly a case of manslaughter rather than homicide. If it was sexual, it'd likely be noted in the story.

In most case they hide their identity because depending on the circumstances the judge might only hold them until they turn 18 and they don't have a criminal record after that. Otherwise if their identity gets out, then they have to create a new identity for them when they get released.

In general, there's far too much of a focus on punishing rather than reforming. While some amount of punishment is useful as a deterrent, there's clearly a point of diminishing returns.

Kids are people, too. They understand right from wrong before they can talk. Absolutely they shouldn't be protected. Never understood the whole protection of kids thing, in some situations.

Girl here was party to the murder of her entire family at the age of twelve. Her pedophile (he was twenty-something if I recall) boyfriend committed the murders, but she did stab her younger brother once and then said she couldn't finish it. Motive was that her parents didn't want them together (duh - the kind of protection most of us think is okay). This was quite a few years ago. Her sentence was shit, because she was a minor. She got free education the whole time she was in, and has a degree from it. All on my dime (criminals essentially get social schooling, may as well make that public). Now she's out walking around and it still isn't publicly known who she is.

When these criminals become adults, their names should be broadcast everywhere. Especially in cases like the one I just mentioned. They are both fucked and have no place in society. Conversations consisted of drinking blood, being part of an actual society of werewolves, planning her family's deaths etc. It might have sounded ridiculous prior to the murders.

I don't believe any suspect should have their name revealed until they are proven guilty, and I have no clue why this is still a thing. It's far too dangerous to let the public judge someone before an investigation has even taken place. Even if they are proven innocent, the public really doesn't care. Their name will be ruined forever.

In this case, though, the fact that it's been revealed that the suspects mom is dating the victim's dad makes it incredibly easy to find out who he is.

Except they literally don't. They might have the beginnings of empathy, but that's not the same thing as any moral system. And, to the more general point, we know that the mind develops as well as the body so that young people have worse impulse control, are less rational thinkers, etc, which is why the law treats them differently.

Which largely defeats the point of the system.

And, if anything, that's an argument that the girl was NOT of sound mind. The grown man may have been more cognizant, but that implies a further impairment.

The only issue is the matter of practicality, as well as arguably a matter of public transparency. Plus a lot of harm can occur without them being publicly named anyway.

Not really, though. Unless the case of siblings or a direct relative, you don't have public records of who's dating who.

You don't necessarily need a public record for everything. Just good old fashioned detective work. Public record will give you the name of the girl's dad. That's a pretty big start. Then you can find out who he's been spending his time with.

Anonymous would have their names in no time.

I suppose if you hacked their social media you could get the info without ever talking to a live person but, generally speaking, you often need to talk to live people for info.
