I have a prescription for an antibiotic urgent care told me to take on Tuesday if I'm still not feeling better. Obviously it's not a bacterial infection. Should I take it anyway for that sweet sweet placebo effect?

Lame, had the same thing a week and a half ago

Stay hydrated and feel better. Good old healthcare professionals pushing antibiotics when they aren't necessary. Surely nothing bad will come from that.

They destroy your gut flora and can cause lingering issues...

I wouldn't take any unless I had a test that confirmed a specific need for them

Even a single course of antibiotics can fuck you up depending on what the drug is, what the dose is, and how your body reacts

https://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm500143.htm

An FDA safety review has shown that fluoroquinolones when used systemically (i.e. tablets, capsules, and injectable) are associated with disabling and potentially permanent serious side effects that can occur together. These side effects can involve the tendons, muscles, joints, nerves, and central nervous system.

As a result, we are requiring the drug labels and Medication Guides for all fluoroquinolone antibacterial drugs to be updated to reflect this new safety information. We are continuing to investigate safety issues with fluoroquinolones and will update the public with additional information if it becomes available.

Keep in mind the FDA only recently released these warnings and these are among the most commonly used and prescribed antibiotics.

Any kind of antibiotics can cause issues with digestive systems that can take a long time to resolve.

Would avoid unless absolutely necessary

Went back to pcp today because I was throwing up yesterday. He still thinks it's an upper respiratory infection. He gave me something for the nausea and said not to take the antibiotic urgent care prescribed.

What did they prescribe anyway (the antibiotic) out of curiosity

Take some steamy shower time or a hot bath, lots of tea and rest, and feel better

Urgent care prescribed augmentin. My pcp prescribed Zofran for nausea.

I don't know what flavor it is, but it's real yummy. He prescribed a type that dissolves in your mouth, it's so damn good.
