We have an amazingly old sound system that we set up because they didn't insulate the wall between the living room and the master bedroom, so if you just use the TV sound it's extremely distracting in the master bedroom. But DVDs don't have this issue, just Blu-rays. What is different on how sound works on them?

maybe your dvds don't support 5.1 or 7.1 so you're just used to everything getting blasted out the front of your speakers while the blurays support 5.1/7.1 output and the stuff thats supposed to be quiet and behind you is actually quiet and behind you? the dvds might also just be blasting full audio out of each speaker as well

How do I make everything on a bluray blast at full volume?

You might have your blu-ray player set to the wrong kind of audio?

I honestly don't know, I still use TV speakers for everything.

you might have your speakers set up wrong, or you might be playing the wrong audio track. try switching between audio tracks on the movie, see if anything changes

or your receiver could just be shitty and dumb
