It's comfortable, simple to maintain, feels really nice in warm weather, and you can usually style it a few ways to cover that. Or just grow it out. Doesn't take long. Haircuts are for the wearer. If they like the aesthetic that's what counts.

Mmm while it would, it's also nice to have some hair. Most women are more open to one shaved side than an entire head. And it's a lot longer to wait through growing out all of your hair than just a side.

People still complain if you're a woman with buzzed hair. It's just a lot harder to cover up.

I perfectly understand the utility of shorter hair. Part shaved, part not just looks gross to me. I can't quite pin why, but it's gross. Like, I actually find it mildly objectionable to look at. Again, this is on both men and women.

So that's me. I personally don't do a ton with my hair, but I do leave it a little longer than I might otherwise because it looks better.

I completely agree with you though about haircuts being for the wearer. My personal apprehension to a shaved side shouldn't matter to really anyone but me and my wife. I don't have to look at anyone else for all that long, really.

For me I like the contrast and the whole post apocalyptic / Sci-fi look about it. I'm a little surprised at how popular it has become.

Everyone has their preferences and anyone that would object to my hair as it is would probably object to a lot more about me.

The picture in the OP isn't even a shaved side. I think that doesn't look as good as shaved to the scalp but most people just get it clipped short anyway. So it's just an asymmetrical cut.

She doesn't like that look either, but to answer the hypothetical, I'd tell her I didn't like it. She's thinking about getting a tattoo that I think looks dumb. I told her that.
