I hate this "new IP" bullshit. People clamor for new IPs but most new IPs I see look just like other games with a new coat of paint. That's not exciting to me. I'd rather a new installment of an existing IP that I like. Besides, Nintendo makes new IPs all the time.

They mostly just recycle the characters tho

Because the rest of the industry is FPS games, third person shooters with Gears of War/Uncharted-style cover systems, GTA clones, Skyrim clones, and sports games

Prime 4 - sequel to a 10 year old game Mario Odyssey - Sequel to a 4 year old game if you count 3D World, 15 if you count sunshine (last exploration game) Zelda BotW - Sequel to a 6 year old game It's not nintendo's fault their IPs are well loved enough to last over 30 years and sequels generally innovate enough to keep the games feeling fresh. --- ... It's a rehash if it is the same game play. NSMB games are rehashes.
