Probably the only genre I'd vote sound design on.

E: I guess puzzle games too, but I dunno if that even counts.

Neither. Both are secondary.

He said "more important," not "most important."

Why is this the only genre where you think this applies? (to anyone who thinks so, not just the above)

You can get away with a lot of cut corners graphicswise as long as there is a consistancy, but if your swords dont have the right shiiiiiiiing or if your guns sound like corks, it doesn't matter how shiny your game is.

I'm kinda the opposite of an audiophile. RPG's just tend to have really catchy soundtracks that I like to listen to over and over again. I have seven Persona 5 tracks on my phone right now, for example.

If I'm playing a shooter or action game, though, I really want to be able to distinguish between what's what in the environment so I don't mix things up and end up dying for it. Usually, so much is going on that I really couldn't care less what music is being played, or how many gunshots are going off around me.

Graphics. Not how high quality they are, but in how effectively they are used for world building.

KOA Reckoning is a great example of a game that just flat nailed its graphics, and it was a huge part of what made that game great.

Music makes the game for me. Probably why Undertale was so beloved. If the music sucked I don't think it would be half as popular.

Rhythm games are only genre I can think of offhand where I'd put music/"sound design" as being more important than graphics

I never considered music/soundtrack sound design so this is graphics by far for me... Don't care too much about sword clangs or how fireballs sound.
