Also bought two silver dollars: 1971 and 1974 because I know some years for half dollars are silver.

Well I struck out. pre 1964 is 90% silver and 64-69 are 40%. 70 and beyond = none.

So you mean I can make 12 dollars for bills I see, like 50+ of, right?

Ive found countless 777s, 666s, even a backluck/goodluck combo on a hundred i bought 05666777*

Theres no way an idiot buys that. If somebody does, holy fuck I could be rich tomorrow raiding my cash drawer.

itd have to be

91191191

or 91199119

those would be sweet. definitely worth more than face value, but who knows how much. Id imagine like, maybe 20-30 more than face value or so.

If you find a bill with an odd, unusual or rare serial number people will pay over face value for it so thats what im checking for.

Its just something that makes the bills more unique/rare, so people will pay over face for some of these. Especially considering some bills people will pay over face for are once in a lifetime finds, like a solid 55555555, or 00000001 or something.

todays finds a 1943, likely steel penny. gotta get a magnet to check it out though, its in grimey horrible condition so i cant just tell. looks silvery.

So I heard steel pennies could be really valuable, so I was thinking i could have a score, but 1943 bronze pennies are valuable, because during the war they switched to steel but a handful were made.

My next challenge is to find a silver quarter and dime.

Any pre 1964. You would think these would be easier to find than my two war nickels, as they made way, way more of them and 1964 is only 50ish years ago, not the 40s. but theyve had melt value higher than 25 cents for a long time so people have em hoarded, and theres enough coin guys out there to find em all. These are also guaranteed value, unless silver prices plummet, because they arent based on year, rarity, or condition. silver value = exact value of coin. No speculation involved unless you do have a rarer coin or one in excellent condition. But a quarter ran over by a stampede of bulls has the same value above face as one thats been circulated but isnt terrible.

I havent found any yet, but i been goin three days. You can line up a row of dimes or quarters and check. Each side will have likely a silver and copper/orange color. IF you find one thats all grey or silver colored, its pre 64.

Ive heard rumors of dimes being found at work. That gives me hope. Ill find em eventually because i deal with hundreds, thousands of coins daily.

So, I keep forgetting to check the star note lookup database.

Star notes arent particularly rare. You might not see one every day, but they're out there. I see a small handful a day hunting my drawers.

Now, it usually isnt worth it keep any old random star note and can be spent, but they can be pad the value of a kinda cool serial number(i assume didnt look up), but also if it comes from a low print run it can be sold for a premium.

http://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/star-notes/lookup/100/2009A/la05666777

Here is a star note I have next to me. Also checked another one in my collection and both came from common runs of 3.2 million. But say you have a smaller run, like 640,000 you could command a premium.

I dont know if theres a database for regular bills, or else I'd check mine to see if i in fact have any small runned bills, which hell if i know, though you can look up sizes on the internet, a lookup database would be sweet.

Went to the bank today and bought $100 in quarters because my drawer hunting didnt satisfy my needs.

Now, I had two choices: federal reserve rolls or customer wrapped rolls. I went with customer wrapped because I figure there would be a higher chance, and the teller did tell me wrapped by the FRB is mainly state quarters.

So I hunted through ten rolls, FOUR HUNDRED QUARTERS...didnt find any silver. None. God damn, im only looking for coins 53 years old and older.

My hunt continues for a silver washington quarter. This now makes $300 I have tied up in currency/coins. These I will re-wrap and send back to the bank, though I am going to pull every non state quarter to see if I have any that looks to be in amazing condition, those could sell possibly.

So, keeping this going even though its mainly me talking to myself... Past two days have been decent

I found a silver dime. 1962 roosevelt! hunting through my friends change. never seen a silver dime in real life, ive seen people finding them in videos, check the edges if there is any copper its regular.

I spotted that edge immediately. Melt value 1.10, I got it for free.

Today my supervisor found a coin the coin machine we put our drawers into didnt accept and its a 1987 s proof nickel. Now, again, seen videos of people finding proofs, but never seen one in real life but as soon as she showed me i knew exactly what it was. Might have had a winner, but they minted 4.2 million of these coins so its value is around 5 dollars. Ill keep it. I also got this for free.

And I bought a five dollar bill today 70080008

Matches the highest number of digits ive seen of the same type: 5. quantities of zeroes are highly collectible.
