Do you think Kayla is making a big deal out of nothing?

Kayla Heifer Hart from North Carolina was OFFENDED when she went into Starbucks wearing a Trump shirt and was humiliated after the female customer "bullied" her by writing "BUILD A WALL" on her cup!!

She said she was humiliated and sobbed after going to her local Starbucks wearing a t-shirt in full support of President Trump and was bullied by the barista. Instead of getting her name on the cup as is the custom, she got a political message instead.

She said "i don't know what politics has to do with getting a cup of coffee. I just walked out because everyone was staring. I just found it really sad that i can't wear a t-shirt with our president without being made fun of"

Kayla immediately emailed Starbucks customer service as she says she's not "trying" to get people to stop going there but wants them to be aware of this behaviour.

She is awaiting to hear back from the chain before making a decision if she will return.

Starbucks released a statement with: We failed to meet this customer's expectation of us and we have apologized and are working directly with her to make it right. We have spoken with our store partners about this situation and are using this as a coaching opportunity in the future."

Kayla said "I just want to put out there so people know this is what's occurring. I don't think it's right you should be humiliated for wearing a t-shirt with your opinion on it"

Do you think she's making a big deal out of nothing? let's see what people think.

idk, "BUILD A WALL" could also be seen as support. After all, that's what Trump wants to do.

In general, if you bring to bear an opinion, you're inviting people to discuss that opinion. Unfortunately, at times it can also provoke violence. I saw an anti-Trump sticker at Starbucks today -- basically read "Not Normal - #Resist" which I immediately took to be a reference to John Stewart's monologue -- and the vehicle had liberal bumper stickers besides that. The vehicle was completely intact. The car next to it, which had a Trump/Pence bumper sticker (And no, Erik, it wasn't my car. Mine is the one that used to have a G1 Decepticon logo on it.) and that car had a deliberate-looking scratch along the back. Then again, liberals use violence to solve problems whereas you don't necessarily see that with conservatives.

That's a confusing message to write on the cup, since it's not really clear whether it was a show of support for Trump, or criticism of Trump. Even if the barista wrote "fuck Trump," that's still not really bullying. Bullying is a bit more than "this person did something mean to me!"

Politics normally has little to do with buying coffee, but when you wear a Trump shirt, you make it about politics. You're making your very presence about politics. If this person is so thin-skinned, she probably shouldn't be wearing a Trump shirt out in public.

I just walked out because everyone was staring.

Yeah, that didn't happen. No one else cared. If anyone did stare, it's probably because she was making a scene.

Oh, the one thing I forgot to mention is that, as a customer-facing employee, it's unprofessional for clerks to make political statements of any kind. As the story demonstrates, it generally leads to problems.

Slight correction to you topic, you originally say a customer bullied the women wearing the Trump shirt, then later say it was the barista, who is an employee.

If we're talking about a customer, taking someone else's property and writing on it is technically vandalism, which is a crime, and is unacceptable (minor sure, but it's not like you want random strangers touching your food without your permission).

The barista is an employee, and while I don't understand what pleasure people get out of it, writing on the cup is apparently part of their job. I however question the wisdom of unnecessarily involving politics into your job regardless of what the customer is wearing or what their political views are.

That said, if you're wearing a Trump shirt, seriously, ironically, or comically. I don't understand being offended by "BUILD A WALL".

If you are wearing the Trump shirt as a serious Trump supporter, you support "building a wall".

If you are wearing the Trump shirt ironically, you find the concept of "building a wall" absurd and would see someone writing "build a wall" on your cup as an agreement to the absurdity.

If you are wearing the Trump shirt for comedy, someone saying "build a wall" to you meant they got the joke.

You don't wear that tshirt without wanting to start some shit. I wear my 'I eat vegans' shirt to get a reaction in the exact same way.
I think the response was funny and proportionate.

I don't know. I'm the type of guy who rarely gets offended, though. Barista was clearly having fun, and if they did that to me, I'd laugh right along with them.

I guess I'm getting so used to Ducky's broken English that I'm not even noticing things like that. Judging from the image, it's definitely the employee since it's part of a printed label (tbh, since I've never got a drink at a Starbucks, I had always just assumed they used a sharpie).

She made a political statement when she decided to wear a Trump shirt. Why would you not expect a political statement back?

It is really bad customer service to do that to a customer. Even if the employee's boss does agree the customer was asking for it, that boss may still end up having to fire that employee. An employee needs to save their disagreement of someone for when they are not busy working.

From a business standpoint, this is unprofessional conduct. It's not an employee's job to express a political stance to their customers.

And from a regular person's standpoint, no you are not invited to ridicule someone because you have a problem with what their attire is advertising. Sure, it's free speech, but you'd still be an asshole for starting something.
