Ever since 3, the games have become the most popular games bar none. To the point, while series are falling off and/or going niche after the PS2 era, GTA was hitting record strides. The games popularized non reward based gameplay. Popularized fetch quests and map objectives. Popularized collecting mundane things like cars and stunt trophies. Popularized virtual killing sprees.
