I've never picked one up, but it's something I want to do (pick one up) someday. There are still some old school hippies here in Oregon who hitchhike.

I picked up a teenager walking in shorts with no shoes or shirt at 4 am once.

Dude apparently got blackout drunk had no idea where he was or how he got there. Ultimately I managed to get him back to his friends house.
