I know! We're super-close. There are reports coming in that the final season might not air until late 2018 or even early 2019 depending on how the production phase goes down, though, so let's savor the holy heck out of this batch. We may be looking at an even longer wait and then... and then it's over. ;_;

Season 7 is looking pretty hype. It probably helps that I adore Season 6, though.

I think it's gonna happen. If it doesn't happen, it won't be Jon or Tyrion or Sansa or anyone else folks are expecting. It'll be Missandei, and not of her own volition.

Well I uh, wasn't being serious. I've had some issues with the writing the last couple of seasons, and one of these is how often a ruler gets stabbed, and the murderer magically gains all of their followers.

the trailer makes it look like 50%+ of the season is going to be battles. if that's really the case, then the writing hopefully shouldn't matter too much. we'll just be awed by the visuals and try not to think about the fact that sansa accepts littlefinger's help without telling jon about it.

I guess it had to happen for Jon to rise to Azor Ahai status, but I'm still salty about Stannis going down. He should have won the Iron Throne and led Westeros against the White Walkers and been killed then, opening the door for Jon to take over. His conflict with Ramsay felt irrelevant to his interests and shouldn't have been his end.

anyway, does anyone (who doesn't know production spoilers) want to try to map this out timeline-wise?

i'm guessing:

episode 1 - dany lands on dragonstone, bran crosses the wall
episode 2 - jon learns of his true heritage from littlefinger, sansa gets to do stuff
episode 3 - the massive naval battle at night - adios to theon? unclear if euron wins this
episode 4 - siege of casterly rock (or lannisport)
episode 5 - whatever arya's up to, whatever sam's up to, etc?
episode 6 - the field of fire, lannisters annihilated - bronn might be saying bye-bye here, jon's party in the north gets reamed by white walkers/wights - tormund's probably toast
episode 7 - setup for next season - the wall falls, cersei's doom, sansa kills littlefinger, dany sits the iron throne, northerners flee south

I love the Euron Greyjoy hasn't really been in these trailers despite all evidence hinting to him wrecking shit harder than anyone else this season. It'll definitely be a shock for some people but anyone who's been following Game of Thrones or ASOIAF know what's up.

he shouldn't, i think, but maybe he figured it out? they definitely hint that he knows, though, in season 5 he and sansa walk the crypts and sansa says rhaegar was a rapist, and littlefinger gives her a 'girl if you only knew' look

The following is based on all existing marketing, so if you're avoiding that stuff, don't read. I spoiler-tagged something that's based on production reports.

7x01
With Seabass that Daenerys lands in the premiere. They've got to place all those promo shots of her prancing around Dragonstone straight out of the gate. I think we see Baelish frakking around in Sansa's mind a lot and Jon's given word that the Mother of Dragons is in Westeros. He doesn't much care but Davos wisemans him into seeing the bigger picture. Cersei and Jaime probably frak just to throw people off; each year, the same question is asked: "now that Jaime realizes Cersei is a monster, what will he do?" -- and each year, he's blinded. The dude's blinded; deal with it. Sandor and Beric might show up at King's Landing here, too, but not Arya. Not yet.

7x02
Jon finds a starship teleporter and beams himself all the way to Dragonstone. This is another thing: they've got to get Jon and Daenerys together pronto. Some won't like it, but these two are absolutely destined to hook up or at least smartly fight alongside one-another in the television adaptation. Just book it already. Arya reaches King's Landing now, I think, and yes, she's blatantly going north in the marketing materials. I doubt small stuff like Jon and Theon development happens; there's just not a lot of time. Anyway, Jaime's in battle scenes in the trailer and they don't look like the North, so I'm guessing he attacks Jon's camp or Daenerys', and I'm guessing it happens here.

7x03
We take a bit of a breather to give Sam and Gilly some genuine development. They find a way to make dragonglass en masse and rush to Dragonstone. There were reports last year of two characters making a comeback, Jorah and Gendry, and I suspect we may seem them tag Sam here and join him en route to the queen. In the North, Bran and Meera arrive and they work with Arya to try to make Sansa see reason while Baelish pushes her to seize power "for the good of the realm."

7x04
Fourth episodes are sometimes shockers in their own right, and with seven episodes this year, I bet we get a mini-climax here for sure. The naval battle occurs, with Jon having secured some kind of tense truce with Daenerys (likely in large part thanks to Tyrion backing up his good word). I agree with Seabass that Theon could be toast. Daenerys, rich from whatever victory Grey Worm nabs for her in the trailer (Casterly Rock, IMO), experiences a substantial setback. Euron gains a stronger hand in his dealings with Cersei, which makes Jaime angry (if he isn't already a prisoner of Daenerys). Jon pressures Daenerys to come north with him, but she believes she must first obtain her crown, which causes even more fans to scoff at her.

7x05
A little slower of an episode again. Siege preparations for King's Landing, Arya and Bran planning a trap for Baelish, Jon and Daenerys feuding with him coming to resent her and marching north. Lots of pieces being laid. Probably Jaime getting laid. Look for stronger character focus scenes here, to wildly varying degrees of success.

7x06
Baelish almost does The Thing, whatever The Thing is. (He's always got a Thing.) Arya and Bran convince Sansa of the truth, and we get a fun sequence which feels like #TeamStark coming together once and for all. Baelish dies. Not far away, Jon, Sandor, Beric, Tormund, and whoever else is in those snow scenes goes up against the Night King; Bran inadvertently opened the gate to the forces of darkness just as we expected. Big, honking battle over here, and another big honking battle down at King's Landing. But! Twist! The fight for the throne goes to stalemate when Daenerys pulls out over word that Jon has engaged the true enemy.

7x07
The finale's runtime is considerable; both it and the penultimate are beating records. We immediately dive back into the losing battle up in the North, and our two action lead heroes unite to kick ass together because Daenerys has learned to trust the White Wolf. I bet we lose several secondary and tertiary characters here on both teams, but Cersei is left to sneer at the veritable tie of a battle back on her turf, with Jaime finally -- yes, finally -- rolling his eyes and agreeing with Daenerys that there's a bigger problem on the horizon. We end the season with blood and snow all over the place.
