I feel like anybody that says it's the best Mario game either only ever plays the first few levels or is a speedrunner so they can get through those ass levels really quickly.

In truth as a kid we never did get farther than the basement. It's always the first few paintings that we remember. Still is one of the greatest games of all time.

Joke topic. Those levels were good, and sometimes great. Wet Dry World, although slightly unpopular, was very well-designed IMO.

Tick Tock Clock was one of the best levels in the game.

Rainbow Ride and Tick Tock Clock both play havok on my fear of heights / falling, RR in particular. Doesn't help that RR is also a giant pain in the ass even taking that out of the equation. I think I enjoy the other two you mentioned, though - Wet Dry World is actually one of my favorites.

I'm not a big fan of TTC because I feel like its constructions and the types of jumps you need to make don't play nice with the camera. RR is good though and you don't really need to carpet that much if the slow carpets are what's bothering you

WDW is extremely cool I dunno why people would hate on it

Those are like the best levels in the game! I liked them all but I guess my least favorite is probably the boo mansion level.

Tiny-Huge Island is by far the worst stage

Way too easy to fall off the tiny island and die

Way too hard to get around the huge island

Same. I loved the Rainbow one and clock one but hated the Boo Mansion one. I 100%'d it at the very last.

Only level I don't care for is Rainbow Ride. TTC is great for pushing the limit on Mario's jumping abilities (especially in a speedrun). WDW also has some fun platforming, while DDD is a swimming level. Take that as you will.

I actually like Dire Dire Docks & Wet Dry World. I'll give you the other two though. I like Rainbow Ride & Tick Tock Clock conceptually, but they're too annoying mechanically. Certain stars can become either very easy, very hard, or nearly impossible depending on when you jump into the clock, while Rainbow Ride requires relying on the flying carpets to transport you most everywhere, meaning that if you slip up & fall, you have to navigate them again just to get to the area you care about.

As a kid I always go to a certain point (maybe like 40-50 stars) and the I would just delete the save file and start over. The furthest I ever got in the game was the level with the monkeys.

I had 112 on a save, even in the late 1990's which is impressive when you're born in 1990. One left was the race with the Koopa King down the mountain.

Rainbow Ride is my favorite level in the game.
