I just looked and mine is 776. It's funny, all my different accounts have FICO scores and the all pull from close to the same day.

I used to have crappy credit.

When I was 19, I was two hours early for a doctor's appointment. So, I decided to go to a nearby Circuit City and look around. I was over by the computers, heard a manager talking to a customer complaining about her desktop icons missing and the manager was having a hard time helping her. I told him exactly how to fix it. He tried to offer me a job on the spot. I probably should have accepted it, but... I didn't because the place was kinda far away from home compared to where I currently worked. I then went over to the TVs, and the guy was trying to get me to buy one. I told him I didn't have that much money, and he said I could sign up for a credit card and then walk out with a TV without paying a dime out of pocket.

Sounded like a pretty awesome idea, so I went over to the customer service desk and signed up for a credit card. I was approved instantly for $5000. I was shocked and completely forgot I was even looking at TVs. I left the store and went to my doctor's appointment.

I started buying EVERYTHANG with that credit card. Shoes, clothing, video games, food, etc. EVERYTHANG. I had no idea how credit cards worked. I just knew that they only wanted like $25 as a minimum payment when I owed hundreds of dollars. Sweet! I'll never forget the feeling I had when I went to a Wendy's and my card was declined. I knew that I owed $5000 and it was gonna take forever to pay it off.

Then I got laid off and didn't have a way to pay even the minimums any more. It got to the point where debt collectors were calling my cell phone every 15 - 30 minutes during the day. It was terrible.

I eventually got a stable job doing tech support. I got a few promotions my first year working there and I was able to afford to pay about $250/month. I did that for a couple years or so and got it paid off.

I worked hard at fixing my credit ever since.

I didn't get a credit card until I was like... 22 years old. Because of all the horror stories I'd heard I didn't even have a bank account. I might be a little behind in terms of establishing a lengthy credit history but I think it's for the best. I went into it with a good attitude and 776 isn't anything to scoff at.

Here's mine on Discover.

It's slightly more on my Credit Union and slightly less on Credit Karma. I guess it changes from day to day. D:

Careful with places like Credit Karma - those scores aren't your real ones. Credit cards like the Discover It and Chase Slate will also provide you with your real FICO scores.

Yeah I use CreditKarma and Nerdwallet but they're constantly about 50 points below my actual score. Still useful to monitor utilization and such. And they update more frequently than the card-given scores.

So I wonder, I did a balance transfer to a 0% card on a CC that I had a balance on a few months ago. I did this because I would have normally paid the card off but was in the hospital for a couple months.

I don't know that I'll be able to pay the balance by the time interest starts to kick in. What's to stop me from finding another 0% interest credit card and doing another balance transfer when it comes close in time for the interest to start kicking in?

Credit matters. In some states it's legal for insurance companies to charge you more based on low credit.

Oh im sure it has, just when i do do check it says there is not enough information to generate a report,

but ill take that, a year ago i applied for a discover student card and got auto-denied due to "collections" checked my credit score then and it was 550 and i had a collections record from a medical group in a city i had never been to

got it taken care of and then my score disappeared

Get a Discover IT student card. That's how I started my credit history. Then I got a store card. Then I got a car loan. Then I got an Amazon card. Then I got a Chase card. And that's it.

Only have a balance on the car loan and the chase card.
