As long as features aren't hidden behind loot boxes it's fine and it's a good way for a company to fund further development of the game. BlackOps 3 had a terrible box system were they put a ton of weapons behind boxes and but also had dlc you had to pay for. Overwatch on the other hand is a more decent one with only cosmetics in boxes and which funds the free dlc and new content.

In brave exvius all the good units are in drop boxes aside from one of the default ones you get being ok. It was amazing how many times I drew the same crappy units over and over when there's a lot of good ones.

I think they're great. I never had/have to pay for DLC maps or anything like that in Gears 4, Overwatch, ME3's multiplayer, Halo 5, and though there aren't really microtransactions all the Titanfall 2 stuff is free as well.

It sucks for games that would otherwise take too long to obtain everything if you spend no money(took me 950 hours in ME3), but I think I'd rather not spend extra money on games I want to enjoy.

They're pretty stupid but so long as they give no gameplay advantages I don't really care. The only games I play with them right now are Halo 5 and Overwatch, and I'd rather their loot box/card (whatever) systems and get new content for free rather that pay $15 - $20 for basically required DLC/map packs (maybe one of which I'll play consistently).

The only thing that annoys me in OW is that you get so many dupes and that the dupes have so little in-game currency value. I haven't spent any money on this stuff and never felt compelled to; never understood why some people plop $100s for cosmetics in a first person game where you barely ever even see what you get. But I guess some people get really revved up about being that awesome dude whose Christmas elf Tracer can do a dance.

I cannot believe how many of you just blindly drink the koolaid of publishers, microtransactions do not belong in any game you paid up front for and their appearance only benefits publishers and publishers alone.

Stop parroting propaganda spewed from the mouths of publishers as if it's gospel and benefits consumers in any way

If they did that, you'd pretty much get everything you could get rather quickly. Having dupes makes it so they don't need to pump out new skins, voice lines, and emotes literally every day.

I suppose I'm not mindful of it because there's often only a small number of cosmetics I even care to get, and I can accomplish getting them via one method or another.

In Star Wars: The Old Republic, plenty of folks put lootbox stuff (and even the lootboxes themselves) up for resell on the auction house in exchange for credits. Literally the only thing that's stopped me from cleaning out the AH at times is that I can only hold onto so many credits at once as a non-subscriber.

in Heroes of the Storm, I've purposefully re-rolled some lootboxes with the mountains of gold I've earned in-game for dupes to get more shards so I can directly trade for the things I actually wanted. Sure, getting free stuff right out of the boxes sounds nice, but not when it's for a character I don't care to play as (to which there are plenty). I imagine I would feel the same about Overwatch.

If anything, I've had far *far* more grievance with certain methods of direct purchase. (IE: no RNG involved), namely with regards to limited edition items. In games like Smite and Paladins, there's a lot of things you can straight up trade for with bought gems/crystals without gambling, the catch is that unless you buy *right then and there* you lose access to ever buying it again. Not only is that a far more manipulative, sinister way to goad people into spending money, but Hi-Rez often does it several times in a single month.

And don't even get me stated on pre-order bonuses...

For all their attempts to bilk people for extra money, a lot of companies have done a masterful job of convincing me to never buy some games at all (why settle for only 99% of a title?), and others have ensured I'll remain a freeloader for life (if I can't complete the collection ever, why start paying into it now?). It's almost ironic that their newfound schemes have made me *more* frugal about how much I'm willing to spend on games.

Even with regards to their "brilliant" plan behind DLC and remasters, it just means I never buy a game at launch anymore, but rather I wait until the "definitive" edition goes up for sale on Steam/Origin/GOG/etc for PC, and I skip console/handhelds titles until the next generation. If they can't be bothered to release an all-in-one version via the numerous online platforms available, or they choose to leave a past-gen title behind, then the game might as well be invisible because I can't be bothered to acknowledge it. If they're going to treat their work and fans with an ice-cold, only-money-matters mentality, then I'll return the favor by viewing their product with all the scrutiny a consumer should, specifically the part that protects my wallet from predatory practices.

The Chance you might get something good is just sickening in gaming all around. There is this WWE phone game, were you can spend really money to buy a new character out of the loot. And you have a chance of getting someone that you already had . And when you get a character that you already own they don't even get that character a big boost.
