The MI6 agent has always been a notorious womaniser, but what if producers rebooted him as a gay man?

The change is something Sir Ian would like to see, having highlighted the lack of gay character representation in major Hollywood movies and franchises.

Speaking with Variety he said: “I do have an idea. I think Ian Fleming, who wrote the original [James Bond] books, knew all about [it]. I’m not sure subsequent actors have quite understood the joke, which is the same as Superman.

“James Bond is a wimp! He’s a silly Englishman that wants his martinis stirred.”

Interesting though about the lack of gay/x character representation. Why not make some new ones then? Whats with the current obsession of changing existing ones?

I don't think they should make him gay for the sake of having more gay characters in movies. The original character James Bond that Ian Fleming created was straight. I don't see a reason to change that. Someone can make a different movie with a gay manizer (male version of womanizer? lol) as the main character.

Something kind of small that has annoyed me about recent 007 movies is the incredibly irrealistic sounds of the guns. They are so freaking quiet! They have gunshots as like soft tapping sounds.

You know a movie that has great sounding gunshots? Heat.

Magneto has taken repeated digs at the best fictional hero his country has ever come up with. This is just an attempt by him to ruffle some feathers. It has nothing to do with social justice, progress, or a new direction for the character. It's just some old guy trolling people because he dislikes the character for whatever reason.

It's easier and cheaper to just steal a character and rewrite it for an agenda than actually write a compelling new character that people like. Plus if it sells well you can use it as a springboard for claiming there's mass market appeal for it and you can make more of it.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they made the next M gay or lesbian. The Man With the Golden Gun (novel) even hinted at M being unsure of his own sexuality.

The novels and some of the earlier films had some pretty negative images of gay and lesbian characters. Wint and Kidd were prissy stereotypes. Rosa Klebb made unwanted advances toward Domino. Pussy Galore was a lesbian who got "converted" to heterosexuality when Bond... well, forced himself on her.


I know I'm talking about characters from 40 or 50 years ago, but it wouldn't hurt for the 007 series to include more positive LGBT characters in its newer films. Allegedly, Madonna's character in Die Another Day was supposed to have been a lesbian, but no mention of it was made in the movie.

But Bond? Don't invert a central aspect of the character like that. I'm not even fine with him being bisexual. If Spider-Man gets a boyfriend, that's cool. James Bond should be exclusively heterosexual because being a skirt chaser has always been a major part of who he is.

Leave things alone. Bond being a misogynist womanizer is part of his character. Stop screwing with original characters. You can have a gay 00 agent or other kind of Bond ally, but leave JB alone.

This bugs me too. It happens in a lot of modern movies and games. Heat left in the original gun shot sounds coming from the guns themselves and that's why it sounds awesome. I wish other movies would do that.

The worst thing you can do to an ideology is point out the absurdity of it. If we're at the point where the general consensus to the "SJW stereotype" is "wow, this is insane" then there's no need for a flame war. That doesn't mean we can't keep poking fun at it, since that stereotype still exists and is occasionally taken seriously (See: "My Sex Junk" on Bill Nye's newest show)
