How was he a horrible role model? He healed people, showed compassion, cast out demons, and literally died a gruesome death bearing the sin of every man and woman that had lived, was alive, and ever will live. The worst part is the spiritual torture he also went through.

Well, I don't agree with any religion that says that suffering is a good thing, that people should not stand up against injustice or tyranny ("Turn the other cheek", suffering in this life, etc), discourages civic involvement ("Pay back Caesar's things to Caesar and God's things to God"), etc. Jesus sort of embodies these ideas.

There was also the fact that some of the stuff he said didn't exactly line up; for example, he told people to turn the other cheek, and then did things like cursing a fig tree for being out of season or chasing people around the temple with a whip.

I mean, if you want to believe in him, that's okay. Personally, I put more value in personal responsibility, honor, courage, vigilance, and the forthrightness to stand up for yourself and your loved ones.

If you want to see a modern version of what early Christianity looked like (and by "modern", I mean 1994), look no further than Chabad and the Messianic Lubavichers.

Chabad these days is considered a controversial Jewish organization because segments of it have morphed into a messianic movement. In the past, they were well respected in the Jewish community, mainly due to their highly respected Gadol Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson. He was so well loved that their were members who secretly believed him to be the long awaited Messiah.

When it came out in the open, Schneerson denounced it as heresy and denied he was the Messiah, but his most ardent followers still persisted. He threw those members out of the organization, but this just pushed it further underground.

After his death from old age in 1994, these Messianic Lubavichers said that Schleeman isn't really dead, but was resurrected and rose into heaven to wait for the end days (Ha Olam) at which point he will return to rule and it will be revealed to all that he is the Messiah. The most heretical members even believe he was God incarnate.

Does this all sound familiar?

Imagine believing in a sky fairy, and attributing your purpose of life to said being.

God is not a sky fairy, and Jesus was a real person and is the Son of God.

Plot hole

Jesus wasn't all knowing. He was the embodiment of God with the limitations of man.

Perhaps in the last book of the Bible? But I'm guessing you went "Too long; didn't read! LOL!" before you could get to that part which is the last few chapters.

To be fair, this sort of topic on CE isn't going to be taken serious. I'm inclined to think it was a bait topic to begin with. Non-Christians often see the ways and means of Christianity as pretty far off-base from reality, so they match it with more ridiculousness.

At least that is how I see it.

And then you get threads like these...talking about flying spaghetti monsters and memes about Odin.

Fair enough.

Anyway, they lived in a time when magic was absolutely an accepted day to day occurrence. Reports of miracles and divine intervention were a dime a dozen. Just because Jesus said he was the son of God/a version of God, doesn't mean he wasn't lying an actually drawing power from some other source like a pagan God or witchcraft.

First of all, I don't think he did that at all.

Second, how the hell would his disciples have known that? When you live in a world where you grew up literally believing that a man in a chariot brought the sun into the sky every morning, it's not beyond belief that a powerful witch used their magic to deceive a bunch of men to follow him around and spread the legend that he was a demi-god.
