Well I did it. 30 minutes and worked up quite a sweat. Walking down the stairs to the main level was lol

I'm going to check out a different gym tomorrow and see which is going to be better for me. Liked this gym, it's a little further away and one of the high schools is attached so during the school year those kids are going to be around and in the gym.

Other gym is closer to home and work but it's on a base and filled with military. Think the facility is not as good but we'll see. They do have racquetball / squash courts which could be fun. That's why I'm checking before committing.

What do you lift, like 20 pounds typically? People do that at tons of jobs, it's not really a big deal

Today, I had to load a cart with 500 lbs of goods, push it around the store then load it onto a trunk. Then unload the trunk and put the goods away. It was a good full body workout. Then I worked my normal 7 hour shift.

It does just get harder to go back. Easier to make excuses or just stop altogether. I hope you get back at it soon. When you do please post here!

I finally wented earlier tonight

I felt slightly weaker but for the most part was able to do the usual amount. But I guess the next couple days are when I'll really find out how I feel

I went today! First time in like two weeks. Only cardio. Usually we do a little lifting afterwards, but we didn't have time.

I find myself going to the pool/hot tub (okay, mainly the hot tub) next to the gym a lot lately. It's... sort of exercise and only opened back up about a month ago so it appeals to me now.

The pool is super small, though, so you can hardly do any swimming, even when it's empty. I go at night to get the empty pool, but it would be nice if it was less busy during the day so I could go and at least get some of the cooling effect.

So in addition to the fun stuff I've also been quitting smoking... Always a good time. My lungs will be better for the gym tomorrow.

When I went to a gym with pools and hot tubs I did like using the hot tub after a good workout and swim.

You can still do some lane swimming at least. Have you tried going really early? That was my swim time, before work. And again after work if it's really hot. It wasn't cooling in the morning (it was down right chilly) but it did refresh.

I cycle 20 km a day, burns about 800 calories, yet over the last year I've gained 3kg (not muscle mass). You're right.

On another related note I started going to the gym last week as well. I'm not as strong as I was 12 months ago but that's what you get when you eat like shit and skip gym. Been going 5 out of the last 7 days and trying to eat well.

Dear lord, you smoke? That seems... so unlike you :/ Well, anyways, good luck with quitting.

No I can't

This is just a little apartment complex pool. Obviously you can't expect much, but I've been to apartments that at least had something you could call a deep end. I can fucking stand in the "deep" end of our pool

It's really not like me. I smoke(d) a pack a week. It was a coping mechanism for a really difficult time and transition last year (it's better and I didn't kill myself so yay). But it needs to be done with. So no more killing myself slowly with tobacco. It is really pleasurable. :(

For weight yes, exercise won't make you lighter if your diet sucks. But it's still important to use your body!

I really wanna get into some kind of rec sports league (mainly for fun's sake than the exercise), but I always end up being too lazy to sign up for it. Well, there's also that I want to get in one with at least one person I know, but fear that I won't be able to find any friends who are interested.

I didn't really play sports much when I was younger so this is my chance

Do it! Just look out for super competitive teams; lots of adults leagues take shit too seriously sometimes and it's off-putting in my opinion. I also like playing for funsies. It sucks that the rec leagues in Chicago are relatively expensive for me ($90+ sign-up fees), so I might have to suck it up and join a random intramural team during the school year.

Ha ha that reminds me of my brother telling me how their rec hockey team paid some guy who was playing in the whl to play for them.

That's a little ridiculous to do but people take their sports winning seriously
